Mr. LC Ligon, 90, passed Sunday, October 27, 2024 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST on Saturday, November 9, 2024 in the C.T. Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home. Burial in Zion at the Hill AME Zion Church Cemetery, 3845 Lee Road 11, Opelika, AL, (Society Hill, AL). Public viewing is from 1:00-5:00 p.m. EST on Friday, November 8, 2024.
On January 29, 1934, Mr LC Ligon was born to the late Bessie Adams Ligon and WIllie Ligon. After blessing this earth for 90 years, Mr Ligon transitioned peacefully, surrounded by love and family, on October 27,2024.
He was born in Russell County, Al and spent most of his childhood in Society Hill, AL. It was there that he dedicated his life to Christ and joined Zion At The Hill AME Zion Church. As a teenager, LC decided he wanted to create better opportunities for himself and his family, so he persued as much work as he could find. This pursuit led him to establish lifelong values of responsibility and reliability, which landed him a job at Bibb Mills in Columbus, Ga., at only 17 years old.
While working at Bibb Mills, he met the love of his life, Cora Rose. LC and Cora celebrated 67 years of marriage shortly before his passing. Together, they built a beautiful legacy, raising five children. After leaving Bibb Mills, he furthered his career at Southeastern lead. Being the achiever he was, he sought to expand his skills by enrolling in Heavy Equipment Operator School.Upon graduation, he returned to Alabama and found employment with the Uniroyal plant in Opelika, AL., where he eventually retired after 27 years of dedication and service.
To know Mr. Ligon was to love him, and he was well known in his community. He was admired as honest, hardworking, dedicated, friendly, helpful, nurturing, and a rolemodel and a guide. These attributes are what will keep his legacy alive in the hearts of those who knew him.
Among all his accomplishments, his greatest pride was his connection with God and pasing that along to his. He made sure that his children and extended family embraced their faith and regularly attended church. His love for his wife, children, grandchildren, friends, and church family, laid the foundation for a life well lived, as a man of “Good Report”
He is preceeded in death by his parents and 12 siblings: Lonnie, Ira, Willie Jr., Ralph, Milton, Major, John, Albert, Jerome, Helen, Katherine, and Betty; along with his Nephews Darius and Anthony.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Cora, one son, Ronnie; Four daughters, Doris, Gloria, Carolyn (Rickey - deceased), and Tarmesha; five grandchildren, Keyonta (Rashad), Exavier, Kylan, Rickey Jr., and stephen; and nine great-grandchildren:Brikayah, Jalen, Tristian, Jevon, Jerimiah, Jason, and Re'vae.
He is also survived by his in-laws; Lillie Gilliams, Dorothy Henning, RoseMArie (Bobby) Warren, Lula Ligon, Adisa, (Priscilla) Makalani
Nieces: Maretta, Deja, Kenese, Valdivia, Felicia, Tianna, Laura, and Nicole. Nephews: Wardell, Johnny, Milton, and Niegel
And a host of other relatives and friends.
