In the gentle embrace of the autumn breeze, we bid farewell to a radiant soul, Kimberly Yvette Thomas, who gracefully journeyed to the heavenly realms of eternity on October 18, 2024, at the age of 60. Born August 16, 1964, in Youngstown, Ohio, Kim's captivating presence illuminated the lives of all who knew her.
A proud 1983 alumnus of The Rayen School, she danced through her youth with a joyous spirit, brightening the world with her infectious laughter and genuine kindness. An academic pursuit led her to Philander Smith College, one of America’s prestigious Historically Black Colleges & Universities, in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she delved into the studies of biology and science. During her collegiate years, she regally wore the coveted crown and titled of Ms. Philander Smith College in 1984, a testament to her grace and charm that overflowed from within.
From the bustling catwalks for several modeling agencies to the sports arenas, Kim's heart always resonated with passion. A devoted Dallas Cowboys fan since the 70s, she cheered with fervor for her team, unwavering in her loyalty.
By profession, Kim was a habilitation specialist for Gateways to Better Living and taught self-sufficiency skills to promote independent living among the developmentally disabled community. Alongside her beloved pit bull and canine companion, Jade, Kim wove a tapestry of love and loyalty, enveloping her family and friends in her warmth. She found solace in the company of her cherished brother Tyrell and treasured cousins Michael and Maurice, sharing laughter and memories that will forever linger in our hearts.
Kim leaves behind to cherish her memories mother Jean Vines, father Willie Thomas, sister Michelle Thomas Green, brother Tyrell Williamson, and grandmother Allie Mae Ross. Kim’s infectious legacy of love will be sustained by her niece Tianna Williamson and nephew Joshua Green along with her great nieces and nephew Christian Dior, Chanel, Ce’Yanni and E’Zaria. Fondest memories will be retained by her aunts Jeanette Jackson, Carol Thomas, and uncles Michael Ross Sr., Charles Thomas and Mike Thomas.
Kim enjoyed a robust relationship with an abundance of cousins which include Eddie Bramlett, who helped take care of her as a young lady, Lee Morris, Chad Mills, Michael “Boo Boo” Ross Jr., Maurice “Reece” Ross, Rashad Robinson, and Joel Byers. Kim also had a special love for her Memphis family Will Nash, Jr Nash, Noree and Tam.
Kim also treasured her lifelong friends Audrey Robinson Nuby, Wendell Hayes, Bill Roland, James Roland, Billy Taylor, City of Youngstown Fire Chief Barry Finley, along with her special girlfriends Niecy Hudson, Denise Wilkie, and Terry Mathews.
Kim had an unquestionable love for God and an unshakeable faith in Him. As her faith became sight, she now assumes a seat among the ancestors. As she entered crossed the celestial shores, Kim was welcomed by her grandfather Albert Ross, grandmother Carrie Thomas- Bass, Uncle Dan, niece, Amerah Green, nephew Marcus Patmon, cousins Janet Jackson and Iris Byers.
As we turn the pages of time, let us remember Kim not with tears of sorrow, but with smiles that dance like sunbeams on a summer's day. For in every heartbeat, in every cherished memory, Kim's spirit lives on, a beacon of hope and love guiding us through the darkest nights. Rest in peace, dear Kim, for in our hearts, your light shall forever shine bright.

Join us in celebrating the life and legacy of Kimberly Yvette Thomas as we gather for her funeral service at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 810 Wilson Ave on Friday, November 1, 2024, at 10:00 am for public viewing and family visitation, A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am with Rev. Jack Pettis officiating.
