Mr. Walter Leroy Johnson

Mr. Walter Johnson, 73, of Gadsden, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024. He is survived by his loving family. We ask that you keep this family in your hearts and prayers during their time of bereavement.

Mr. Walter Leroy Johnson was born on December 1, 1950, to Mr. Thomas Woodie Sr. and Ms. Julia Johnson Woodie, in Springville, AL. He graduated from Norris High School, class of 1968 in Attalla, AL. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a very dedicated member of Morning Star Baptist Church. He held many roles such as being the Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Choir member and a Keyholder of the church. He was also a teacher of the Wills Creek District Baptist Association.

He was a United States Navy veteran, and a member of the Attalla Museum. He was a very loving person, who really enjoyed time with his family. He was very helpful and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was an avid, die-hard Alabama Football Fan and would watch games in the company of his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Woodie, Sr. and Julia Johnson Woodie; siblings Myra Austin, Bill Austin, and Belinda Gail Woodie.

He leaves to cherish his memories, siblings Glenn Woodie, Thomas Woodie, Jr., Allen Austin, DeWight Austin, and Theresa Woodie Johnson; Special Cousin and friend, Charles Jones; long time friends Deloris Malone and William Graves; and another Special Friend, Mary Boley.

Public Visitation will be held from 2pm-5pm, Sunday, November 17, 2024 at West Gadsden Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 2pm, Monday, November 18, 2024 at Morning Star Baptist Church (1131 4th Street NW, Attalla, AL 35954)
