Sterling Jo'van Tate

In loving memory of Sterling Jo'van Tate, affectionately known as Sterl by family & friends, was born to the union of Sherry L. Lee-Tate and Arlegus Tate Jr. who graced this world on February 6, 1994, in Youngstown, OH, Known for his magnetic presence and unwavering spirit, Sterling constantly brought light and warmth to all who knew him transitioned into eternity on November 1, 2024 at the Cleveland Clinic.

Sterling graduated from East High School in 2012, as a student he enjoyed playing on the Golden Bears Football team and its band. Upon graduation he embarked upon his vocation. Displaying a tremendous work ethic, Sterling, a machinist by trade, was employed at Pure Foods. He also left an indelible impression during his employment at the Frazier Tree Service Company and the Vindicator.

Sterling’s essence exuded a charming mystique – from the days of his youth, where his affinity for the Miami Dolphins became apparent, the exhilaration of times shared with friends, to the intricate tapestry of his life that he weaved with family, every moment was an ode to his unique spirit. Sterl enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as watching a movie, eating candy, singing and dancing and embracing his cool swag.

With a demeanor as cool as the breeze on a summer night, Sterling lived life boldly, finding joy in the simple moments. Even in his last days, he embraced each day with his characteristic zest for life, leaving behind memories that will forever hold a place in our hearts. Sterling's adventurous spirit was unwavering as he embraced life's journey on his own terms. His radiant smile and love for family and friends were at the core of his being, bringing joy to those around him.

He leaves to cherish fondest memories his beloved mother Sherry L. and his forever love, soul mate & caregiver India Townsend. Sterling had the honor of embracing fatherhood, a role he revered, leaving his legacy to son Suadonte', daughters Sa'Niyah and Ka'Myah. The opportunity to be a loving father was a source of immense pride to Sterling.

He is also survived by his siblings Evie (Bily) Moore, Davanzo (Rita) Tate Sr., Phyllis Brown, Cassandra Lucas, Kenneth (Elisa) Tate, Arlegus (Tracey) Tate III, Tanashia Tate, Stephen Tate and Stephanie Tate. He also shared a special relationship with his nephew, Jason Payne. Sterling leaves a treasure trove of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, godchildren and friends who enriched his world.

As Sterling crossed the celestial sands into eternity, he was warmly embraced by the ancestors who preceded him in this life which included his father Arlegus Tate Jr. and grandparents.

The Tate family invites all who knew Sterling to gather as we honor Sterling’s life, love and legacy. On Saturday November 16, 2024, there will be a public viewing at 9:30am held at Price Memorial AME Zion, 920 Dryden Ave. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 10:30am with Rev. Dr. William King serving as the celebrant. Following the service, Sterling will be laid to rest with a committal ceremony at the Oakwood Cemetery, 600 N. Oakland Ave, Sharon, PA.

Sterling's legacy will continue through the hearts he touched and the memories he created. Though he may have departed from our sight, his spirit remains etched in the stories we share, the laughter we echo, and the love we hold forever close.
