Also surviving are his daughter, Crystal Straughter, born to Julia Frazier and his grandchildren: Jason Jr., Leah, Kevin, Lolah, Leeah, Malcolm Jr., Major, Maddison, and Myles.

Celebrating the life of their beloved brother, affectionately known as "Bo," are his siblings: Rosa B. Johnson (Wilbert), Calvin Bigby (Helen), Birdie Clinkscales (Franklin), Mary Johnson (Jessie), David Bigby, Robert Bigby (Debbie), Theresa Bigby, and Patricia Ward (Neal). He is also survived by sister-in-laws LaRue Bigby, JoAnn Bigby, a devoted sister-in-law Carolyn Bigby, and a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mike was a proud graduate of T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson, South Carolina, and went on to earn his degree from Virginia State University (VSU) in 1981. After graduating from VSU, he began his career as a Special Education Teacher in Richmond, Virginia, where he served students across elementary (Westhampton), middle (Chandler and Elkhardt), and high (Thomas Jefferson) schools. Mike taught and inspired students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, not only as their teacher but also as a passionate coach of softball, football and basketball, a Kiwanis Club facilitator, and a leader of the Horticulture Club.

Later, Mike transitioned to the private school sector, continuing to support students with diverse disabilities and forming lasting friendships with his colleagues. Before his passing, he served as a Direct Support Professional, assisting adults with intellectual disabilities with their daily routines and on community-based field trips. He was deeply committed to working with his "guys," always approaching each day with compassion, patience, and a dedication to making a positive impact in their lives.

Mike was well known for his genuine love for people and his ability to form meaningful connections. This included the lasting bonds he shared with his fraternity brothers after being initiated into the Upsilon Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in 1990. He was quick with a story or joke—often with an unexpected twist—and could always bring laughter to those around him. Mike's love for sports was undeniable. On weekends, he could be found cheering on his grandkids, offering game-time advice, or passionately supporting the Dallas Cowboys, win or lose.

Mike's memory will live on in the hearts of all those he touched. May he rest in peace, forever cherished and never forgotten.
