George Clay Hairston, Jr. was born on November 20, 1946, in Meridian, Mississippi. He peacefully passed away to be with the Lord on November 5, 2024. As the eldest of eight children, he was the son of George Clay Hairston, Sr. and Rosie Mae Hairston.

George’s educational journey began In Meridian at St. Joseph Catholic School, where he completed grades 1 through 5. He then transferred to the historic Wechsler School for 6th grade and continued his studies at Carver Jr. High, finishing grades 7 through 9. Finally, he attended T.J. Harris High School. In 1966, he answered the call of duty and was drafted into the Vietnam War, serving honorably until 1972, including a significant assignment in Anchorage, Alaska.

After his military service, George spent five years driving a taxi in Meridian, MS. He then made the bold move to New York City, where he embarked on an entrepreneurial journey by founding “Little George’s Carwash,” a venture he successfully ran for a decade. His passion for painting eventually inspired him to establish “Little George’s Painting Service,” which flourished for over 35 years. Renowned for his expertise, George proudly continued the family tradition of craftsmanship, drawing inspiration from his father.

A devoted member of the Church of the Advent Hope, George found joy and purpose in his faith under the leadership of Pastor Todd Stout. He spent many hours studying the Word and loved his tradition of sending daily texts of bible verses to his family and close friends.His creativity shone through in his hobbies, particularly in macramé and sewing, where he crafted beautiful suits that reflected his unique style. Throughout his life, George demonstrated remarkable resilience and an unwavering spirit. He faced life’s challenges with tenacity, embodying a profound strength in the toughest of conditions. His ability to rise above adversity and maintain hope was a testament to his character.

George was preceded in death by his father, George Hairston, Sr., his mother, Rosie Hairston, and his brothers, Humphrey “Mickey” Hairston and Grover Hairston, all from Meridian, MS. He is survived by his five siblings: Brothers: Harland Hairston (Mary Ann) of Gulfport, MS, and Gabriel Hairston (Darnice) of Meridian, MS, Sisters: Harriett Hairston of New York, NY, Babs Hairston of Meridian, MS, and Leontyne Tompkins (Michael) of Houston, TX, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

George Clay Hairston, Jr. will be remembered for his gentle spirit, creativity, and his unique way of viewing the world.
