Pearl Joyce Plummer (Martin), lovingly known as Joyce or Aunt Joyce to many, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on May 5, 1934, in the Parish of Trelawny, Jamaica, West Indies, she was the second child of the late David Stanley and Iris Louise Martin. Raised in Manchester, Jamaica, Joyce attended Plowden Primary School, where she became an active and cherished member of the Plowden Presbyterian Church. It was in Manchester that she met her soulmate, Joslyn Leopold Plummer, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, companionship, and the joy of raising their five children.
Known for her skills in the kitchen, Pearl worked as a chef at Joseph’s Restaurant in Kingston, delighting guests with her culinary talents and generous spirit. In 1970, Joyce made a brave and hopeful journey, emigrating to the United States. She dedicated over 30 years to serving as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Glades General Hospital, where she became not just a caregiver but also a beloved friend and extended family member to many.
Joyce’s life was defined by love and service. Her greatest joys came from her family and friends, with whom she shared an infectious warmth and endless support. She was an avid gardener, an enthusiastic shopper, a joyful traveler, and a formidable dominoes player. Her conversations, especially with her closest friends, were cherished moments, filled with laughter, wisdom, and kindness. Joyce also gave back to her community as an active member of the Band Booster Club at Glades Central High School and as an active usher board member at the Church of God in South Bay. Her generosity extended beyond her community, as she frequently donated to charitable organizations worldwide.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. Her children, Buliah Plummer, Yone Simpson (Carolie), Jackie Plummer, Leon Plummer (Jessica), Roy Plummer (Althea), and Patrick Plummer (Taska), hold her close in their hearts. Her siblings, Ethelyn Parkes (Wesllesly), Douglas Martin, and Linford Martin, remember her with fondness. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Christine, Leatrice, Pa’Tricka (Maurice), Tionna, Alexis (Tyler), Joslyn, Cianna, Jaiven, Faith, Jenesis, Jacelyn, and Julianna, as well as her great-grandchildren, Isiah, Carter, Amarah, Arion, and a host of nieces and nephews
Joyce is reunited with those she loved dearly: her beloved husband of 46 years, Joslyn Leopold Plummer, her siblings Marjorie, Cynthia, Rosemary, Sylvester, Sidney, Roy, and Johnny, her grandson Brian Phillips, and her great-grandson Amari Isom.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to those who provided loving care for Joyce: Juanita, Beverly, Dani, Marie, and Bernice. Your kindness and compassion brought comfort in her final days and are remembered with heartfelt appreciation.
Joyce’s warmth, resilience, and unwavering dedication to family and community will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a light in the lives of many, and her memory will forever be treasured.
