Alvin Charles Talley, 92, of Midland, TX passed away on Saturday, November 16th, 2024 surrounded by family.
Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25th, at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie, TX, with Pastor Doyle Wade officiating.
Burial will follow at Smyrna Cemetery in Sunset, Texas.
Family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Monday.
Alvin was born March 5, 1932 in Bonita, Texas to Orville and Ethel (Dickerson) Talley. He was raised on a farm being the oldest of 6 boys and 1 girl and graduated from St. Jo High School. He left to attend Midwestern State University for 2 years before being drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He returned to Wichita Falls where he met and married his wife Barbara Ann Eavenson and graduated with an Agricultural Degree from Midwestern State University.
Alvin began work at feed stores and an egg farm before working 30 years and retiring as a State Health Inspector while owning and maintaining rental property. He then went back to raise cattle and hay in Sunset, Texas for 10 years until Ann’s health from MS declined to where he could not do both. They move into Assisted Living for her when he was an active 65 year old and took care of her until she passed in 2015. The last 24 years he has lived in a house at Manor Park in Midland, Texas.
Alvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. He rarely missed a ball game or halftime band performance. He had an identifiable laugh and a good sense of humor.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Barbara Ann Eavenson, parents Orville and Ethel Talley, his brothers, Alford Talley, Clinton Talley and Ronnie Talley.
Alvin is survived by his daughter Peggy (Gary) Sorenson of Grand Saline and son Joel (Sharon) of Midland; his grandchildren, Courtney (Brad) Stombock of Atlanta Georgia, Fletcher (Emily) Lewis of San Diego, California and Reid (Callie) Talley of Midland; two great grandchildren, Barrett and Emmett Stombock; his brothers Gerald Talley (Rita) of Bonita, Jerry Talley (Leta) of Nocona and Sister Catherine Nail of Fayetteville, Arkansas and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Alvin was known as “Papa” by his grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Maria Jurado who has provided in home care for over 20 years including Lucy Torres, Belinda, Anna, Valarie, Ann and other caregivers for their love and kindness.
