DEACONESS GERALDINE B. POWELL, affectionately called “Gerald” was born January 14, 1943 to the late Ulysses and Pannie Mae Boyd Bracey in Mecklenburg County, VA and departed this life November 13, 2024 in VCU-Community Memorial Healthcenter in South Hill, VA. She was also preceded in death by her siblings- Willie, William, and Thomas Bracey, and Junior Macklin.

At an early age Geraldine was baptized and joined Roanoke Zion RZUA Church in Bracey, VA. She served in many auxiliaries of the church: President of the Choir, a member of the Mother’s and Deaconess Board, Missionary and the Pastor’s Aide. One of Gerald’s greatest joys was singing in the choir.

In 1967, she was married to the late Roosevelt Powell and to this union two sons were born, Eulis and Percell.

She always wore a smile and she loved to laugh. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching her soap operas and the Andy Griffith Show.

Gerald leaves to mourn two devoted sons- Eulis Roosevelt (Meleane) Powell of Suitland, MD; Percell Powell (Angelia) of LaCrosse, VA; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters- Ida Mae (Cecil) Coleman of LaCrosse, VA and Magnolia Dunson of Laurel, MD: sister-in-law, Mary Bracey of LaCrosse, VA; special and devoted friends- Florence Macklin, Beverly Hendrick, Cora Giles, and Osinia Whittle, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
