Mr. Albert Henry Nickerson Sr. life began on March 27th, 1950. Albert known as “Tootie” a devout Christian from Kosciusko, MS, was called home to God at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS on November 25, 2024. Albert lived 74 years of a fruitful life, devoted to his family, his friends, and serving the Lord.
Albert was born in Kosciusko, MS, to Iresse Nickerson Collins and John Henry Nickerson. Albert was an entrepreneur and owned several businesses consisting of auto body and collision, entertainment venue owner, salesman, politician, truck driver, and eventually started his own logging company “Nickerson Logging" where he presided for decades before eventually retiring after 2010. Tootie would spend the remainder of his years loving his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Betty J. Nickerson, his family, and teaching everyone how to catch fish and serve the Lord.
Albert (Tootie) was a devoted and loving father to Reginald Gregory, Eric (Shirley) Nickerson, Sherrie (Willie) Laine, Alex Nickerson, Albert Nickerson, Jr., Marcus (Ebony) Nickerson, and Dionna Brown, who dearly miss him and the life lessons he imparted to them. Among them they gave him a host of grandchildren. He loved each of his grandchildren dearly, from attending their events to spending quality time together.
Albert took great pride in being the patriarch of the family. Tootie loved playing Monopoly, checkers, and spades. He had a great passion for fishing and could often be found docking his boat on many bodies of water. Most of all, he was a fisher of men, as he was a devoted Christian who cherished his Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Albert attended Kosciusko Church of Christ, where he was ordained as a Deacon and served his community by working to spread the word of God throughout the city to family, friends and strangers, (well he never really met a stranger). His favorite Bible verse was Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” His Christian values informed every aspect of his life and molded him into the beloved person we know and loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Nickerson and Iresse N. Collins, his five brothers, Henry Newell (Noonie); Johnny Ray (Jap) Nickerson, Willie Ray Nickerson, Edward Charles Nickerson, and James Henry Nickerson (Bo) and a sister, Betty Ann Nickerson.
He leaves behind his loving wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with his siblings; Jean (Will) Covington, Joyce Rayford, Margaret (Melvin) Redd, Debra L. Elmore, Bonny (Jesse) Martin, Bobbie (Jose) Collins Romero, and Betty Collins; sister-in-law, Barbar Nickerson and “bonus brother/cousin” Charles Winters, Uncle James Winters, and two aunts: Sarah Buchanan and Inez Winters.
