Wanda Cecelia Brown

Wanda was born on January 6th, 1950 in Jacksonville, Florida. Wanda was the eldest child of the late Edwin R. Williams, Sr and Winifred Williams. She grew up in Palatka, FL where she made lifelong childhood friendships and served in her community. Wanda received her high school diploma from Palatka South High School ‘67 and attended Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University. Wanda was active in the community where she grew up; she was a loved member with the African American Arts and Cultural Club, The City of Palatka Task Force, The West Central Academy class of ‘67 alumnae, and Juniors Women's Club of Palatka.

Wanda was known for her kindness, resilient inner strength, community activism, comforting words of wisdom, and a deep commitment to her family and friends. She dedicated a career covering 30 years with the Department of Children and Family, Palatka, Florida in multiple roles, with a final role as an operations manager. Wanda enjoyed traveling on multiple cruises trips with her youngest sibling and enjoyed fun cruise events with niece Shantelle Henely. She joined different Central Academy High School class trips with her brother in law and younger sibling, loved to attend family weddings/events with her younger sibling, and always enjoyed all family functions. She was dedicated in support of her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews on their academic paths and attended high school/ college sports events for her grandchildren. Wanda impacted the lives of everyone she met.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Winifred Willams; brother, Edwin R. Williams, Jr.; grandsons, Devin Thomas and Ashton Brown.

Wanda is survived by her children: Annette Brown (Denel), Nanette McGhee (Benjamin), and Alvinia Brown; siblings: Carolyn Smith (Clifton), Joycelyn Fields, Michelle Dunbar (Michael); grandchildren: Trevor Lindsay III, Kelcey Mallory, Lauren Smith, Trenton McGhee, Mariah Evans (Dasia’na), Evan McGhee, Landon Perry, Mia Perry, Adrian Brown, Sheldon Brown, Carter Brown; great-grandchildren : Valissa Thomas, Noah Smith, Aiden Lindsay, Cairo McGhee, Emory Perry.

Wanda is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special bonus kids. Her legacy of love, wisdom, and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

The Brown - Williams Family will receive extended family and friends from 5:00p.m.-7:00p.m. Friday, December 6, 2024 at The Calvary Life Center (1414 Bronson St. Palatka, FL 32177). The Homegoing Celebration will be 11:00a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2024 at The Calvary Life Center. Wanda’s final resting site will be in Oak Hill - West Cemetery.
