Mr. Rufus “Goy” Shaw, Sr.

Mr. Rufus “Goy”Shaw, Sr., was born in Bracey, Virginia on March 1, 1927 to the
parentage of the late Ross Shaw and Laura Boyd Shaw. He entered his eternal rest
on Friday, December 14, 2024 at the Emporia Rehabilitation Center in Emporia,
Virginia.
He was a 97 year old World War II Army Veteran. He entered service at Fort Geo G Meade Army Base in Maryland, November 1945. He was stationed in Shemya, Alaska during his military service and honorably discharged from Fort Campbell
Army Base in Kentucky. He was a decorated with the World War II Victory Medal in May 1948.
After military service, he was a hardworking logging worker, smart farmer and gardener who had a green thumb for growing. He also worked as a maintenance
employee and night security at LaCrosse Sportwear for many years, where he retired.
His marriage to Christine Baskerville Shaw was for over 56 years from June 21, 1952 until her passing on November 10, 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; daughters, Sylvia Lavern “Vern” Shaw and Cheryl Darlene Shaw; brothers, James Shaw, Tyler Shaw, Leonard Shaw, Lawrence Shaw, Houston Shaw, Alexander Shaw, William Shaw and sisters, Frances Shaw and Isabella Shaw.
Rufus leaves to cherish his memories to his daughter, Rita Shaw, South Hill, Virginia; sons, Clarence (Kathryn) Shaw, North Carolina, Willie Shaw,
Charleston, South Carolina, Willis Shaw, South Hill, Virginia, Ernest “Skinner” Shaw, Palmer Springs, Virginia, Rufus (Jovanni) Shaw, Jr.,; dearly loved
granddaughter Angela “Pooh” Shaw, South Hill, Virginia; devoted granddaughter, Shenisha “Ne” Crutchfield, Bracey, Virginia; caring grandson, Stephen Shaw, South Hill, Virginia; close nephew, Thomas Lowell “Scoot” Shaw, Petersburg,Virginia; grandchildren, Chanel Shaw, Levi Shaw, Brandon Shaw, Tyrell Shaw, Kelvin Shaw, Chrissy Shaw, Travis Shaw, Terence Shaw, Brian Garland, Ismeric
Shaw, April Shaw; great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
