Irving "Pat" Fox

Passed 12/15/2024

Pat Fox called it quits on December 15, 2024, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, North Carolina.

Irving Patrick Fox was born on February 20, 1927, to Irving and Josephine (Costigan) Fox. Pat grew up in Brooklyn, NY, a devoted but annually disappointed though patient Brooklyn Dodgers fan. He graduated from Brooklyn Prep in 1945 and was a WWII veteran of the US Marine Corps.

Pat graduated from Williams College in 1949 and Cornell Law School in 1955. In his fist ten years as a lawyer, he was an associate in the former New York law firm of Dewy, Ballentine, Bushby, Palmer & Wood. Thereafter, he worked in the Law Department of The Prudential Insurance Company of America from which he retired as Vice President and Associate General Counsel after 26 years of service. Pat was an enthusiastic and talented cook, having learned the art of fine French cuisine over several visits to a culinary school in Provence, France.

Pat was a thirty-year resident of Chatham and Chatham Township, NJ (except for a four-year interval in Summit). While in the township, he was very active for many years in the Chatham Township Athletic Association’s boy’s ice hockey program. This effort contributed to Chatham Township High School’s winning the Gordon Cup State Championship in 1972.

Pat and his treasured wife and best friend, Joan (Kelley) and beloved dog, Bing, have been happy residents of Durham, NC for 27 years. They lived, socialized and played golf at Treyburn Country Club where he had two of his three holes-in-one.

In addition to his wife, Pat is survived by his sister; Connie Downey of Clarksburg, MA, his daughter; Connie Fox Scheufler, of San Rafael, CA, his sons; Tim of Chester Springs, PA and Tony of St. Augustine, FL as well as seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
