Alvin Tyrone Nether transitioned to be with the Lord on December 17, 2024 at the age of 80, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.
Born on December 7, 1944 in Sylvester, GA, Alvin was the cherished son of the late Wayman and Cora Mae Nether. As the only boy and the third of four children, he grew up embraced by the love of his parents and three devoted sisters.
Though Alvin jokingly described himself as a “hater of school,” his life was a testament to resilience, ingenuity, and a fierce belief in his own potential. Alvin forged his own path to success, learning from every challenge and celebrating every victory. His talents were as diverse as his passions, earning him titles such as farmer, mechanic, technician, handyman, painter, driver, security guard, investor, and landlord. Alvin lived with unrelenting courage and a passion for life that was both inspiring and unforgettable.
On October 13, 1968, he married his beloved Geneva (McKelvin). Together, they made a beautiful life and family. Alvin was a pillar of strength and guidance for his three children, instilling in them the values of hard work, faith, and perseverance. During his career as a technician at Procter & Gamble in Albany, GA, Alvin not only honed his craft but also formed lifelong friendships that enriched his life and the lives of those around him. Later, his entrepreneurial spirit shone as a real estate investor.
Alvin had a zest for simple joys: watching NASCAR races, westerns, and episodes of Cops, tending to his pristine lawn, and appreciating fine automobiles. As a devoted member of Jones Chapel A.M.E. Church, Alvin’s love for the Lord guided him throughout his life.
