Luretha Rouse Burley

Passed 12/19/2024

Much loved in our family, on Thursday, December 19, 2024, God called our dearly adored Ms. Luretha Rouse Burley home to dwell with Him in his house forever. Born on September 23, 1950, in Waynesboro, Burke County, Georgia, she was the cherished daughter of the late McCathern and Rosie Lee Rouse.

At an early age, Luretha accepted Christ and was baptized at Green Branch Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. E. L. Allen. She faithfully served on the Usher/Usherette Board, embodying a spirit of service and devotion. Although Green Branch held services only on the first and third Sundays, Luretha, along with her mother and Uncle Johnny, often visited sister churches, deepening her faith and fellowship. It was her desire to learn more about God’s word making the same learning available to others. She along with Robert Trotty began conducting weekly Bible classes in her home.

Luretha united in Holy Matrimony with Larry Lloyd Burley, and from their union came one beloved son, Larry “Tremayne” Burley.

Luretha was educated in the Burke and Richmond County School Systems and proudly graduated from Lucy C. Laney High School. She continued her studies at Augusta Technical School, which prepared her for a rewarding career at the Medical College of Georgia. She retired in July 1997 after years of dedicated service.

A woman of enduring faith and resilience, Luretha was a breast cancer survivor of over 30 years. Despite facing numerous health challenges, her unwavering trust in the Lord was an inspiration to all who knew her. She found joy in worshiping with Rev. Dr. Clyde (Louise) Hill Sr., whom she lovingly adored and she cherished her connection with Mount Calvary Baptist Church. In recent months, she eagerly awaited services led by Rev. Dr. Christopher Armstrong at Mt. Calvary, faithfully watching online and delighting in the Word of God.

In addition to her parents, Luretha was preceded in death by her sisters, Gloria J. Rouse, Martha A. Rogers, and Annie M. Lewis (Fuzz), along with other beloved family members.

Luretha’s later years were marked by the extraordinary care and devotion of her only son, Tremayne, who ensured she was surrounded by love and comfort in every moment.

Luretha leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and precious memories. She is survived by her devoted son, Larry “Tremayne” Burley; his father, Larry Lloyd Burley; cherished and only granddaughter, Tremiyah Burley; a grandson in heart, Sheldon Rhynes; dedicated and devoted sister, Catherine (Freddie) Handy; brothers, Carl “Ray” Rouse and Lewis “Chuck” Rouse; beloved aunt, Naomi Rouse; dear friend and confidant, Robert Trotty; and a host of special and loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and kind friends. Although all of her cousins were special to her, she shared a unique bond with her cousin Donald Hamilton. In spite of the fact that she tried to dodge his calls, she loved that he was persistent and would chase her until she took his call. She especially loved it when he would make a surprise pop up visit.

Though her earthly journey has ended, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and gratitude.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, December 30, 2024, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 1260 Wrightsboro Road.
