Obituary For Dora Boone

MRS. DORA MAUDE WATTERS BOONE- of the community of Curryville, Georgia, departed this life on December 17, 2014 in her home in Curryville, Georgia surrounded by her children. She was born October 27, 1918 to the late William and Julia Greenwood Watters of Shannon, Georgia. She moved to the Curryville Community in 1930, after her mother, who was widowed, married Jesse Tate. She was married to Solomon Franklin Boone, Sr. on who preceded her in death on December 12, 1967 after nearly 25 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Holton Watters, sisters, Rosezell Mann, Vivian Lindsey, and Ruth Spikenard, and stepbrothers, Joseph, Rufus, Harvey, and Ralph Tate. Mrs. Boone was an educator who received her Bachelor’s Degree from Fort Valley State College, Fort Valley, GA, and her Master’s Degree in 1978 from Berry College, Rome, GA. She taught in the public schools in Gordon County for more than 50 years, beginning in the Red Bud and Curryville communities. She later taught in the Roland Hayes Nursery School, Stephens School, Liberty Elementary School, and W. L. Swain Elementary School, from where she retired in 1988. She taught many of the children in Gordon County who enjoyed her dedication to education and to excellence. She was a member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. She attended the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Curryville for many years and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Calhoun, Georgia. She is survived by four children, Samuel S. Boone of Fort Washington, MD (wife, Carmen Carrion); Anthony Wayne Boone of Curryville, GA (wife, Louvonia Johnson); Beverly Boone Meek of Durham, NC (husband, Dennis); Solomon Franklin Boone, Jr. of Curryville, GA (wife, Janis Gayle Goodlow); ten grandchildren: Charles Meek, Heather Boone, Dexter Denmon, Eric Meek, Tanishia Berrien, Bisa Meek Merrill, Thandiwe Meek, Rose Esemuede, Anthony Boone, Jr., and Evelyn Gayle Baker; eleven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews in Georgia and Ohio and a host of friends throughout Gordon County and beyond. The Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 22, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 256 Church Road, Calhoun, Georgia, 30701, Curryville Community, with Pastor H. D. Caldwell and other ministers officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday at the church from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. Interment will be in the Zuber Cemetery, Shannon, Georgia.
