Obituary For Walter Dorsey

MR. WALTER JAMES DORSEY- AGE 82, Of Lithonia, Georgia passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at DeKalb Medical Center. He was born on May 16, 1932 in Rockmart, Polk County, Georgia to the late Walter Glen Dorsey and Mary Gibbons Dorsey. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Taylorsville, Georgia. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from Fort Valley State College, and Master of Science Degrees from Texas A&M and Clemson Universities. After college, Mr. Dorsey served in the U. S. Air Force stationed in Okinawa, Japan and Montgomery, Alabama. He began his career with the USDA in the early 1960s and retired in the late 1900s after a productive and rewarding career. His career afforded him the opportunity to travel all across the United States and abroad. He was last employed with the United States Department of Agriculture. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter Glen and Mary Dorsey, first wife, Catherine Dorsey Strickland; brother, Charles William Dorsey; sisters, Mary Pearl Dorsey and Mozell Dorsey Sebastian. Survivors are his wife, Dorothy Ferrell Bowers Dorsey; sons, Philbrick R. Dorsey, Michael James Dorsey Sr. of Lithonia, Georgia, Ron Davis of Acworth, Georgia, Anthony Bowers, and Frederick Bowers of Atlanta, Georgia; daughters, Lydia Ann Dorsey-Scott of Lithonia, Georgia, Barbary Bowers, Ervenia Bowers of Atlanta, Georgia, Cynthia Bowers Johnson of Dallas, Texas, and Felecia Bowers of New Orleans, Louisiana; daughters-in-law, Servonia Zanders Dorsey of Lithonia and Junko Davis of Acworth; grandchildren, Michael James Dorsey Jr. of Seattle Washington, Tatum Dorsey Asante of Atlanta, Malynda Michaela Dorsey of Valdosta, Georgia, Shirley M. Dorsey, Marilyn S. Dorsey of Lithonia, Georgia, Mario A. Scott of Brooklyn, New York, Rochelle Malina Scott of Durham, North Carolina, Eunis, Jedidiah, Noah Davis of Acworth, Tanganyika Bowers, David Bowers, Camica Johnson, Jeremy, Kabebe, and Jalani, Anthony Bowers Jr., Frederick Bowers Jr., Yasmin Bowers, and Bradley Bowers; sisters, Marion Bernice Dorsey-Livsey of Smyrna, Georgia, Minnie Christine Grant, Sally Juliette Wolfolk of Dayton, Ohio, Dorothy Jean Dorsey-Carter of Bronx, New York, and Thelma Ruth Wesley of Long Island, New York; brother, Fred Marvin Dorsey of Huntsville, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Homegoing service for Walter James Dorsey will be held Friday, January 23, 2015 at 11:00 A. M. at Greater Zion Hill Baptist Church, 2010 Village Pkwy. Smyrna, Georgia 30080 with Rev. Dr. Elijah Jones, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. Interment, Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia.
