With grace and dignity, Dorothy Louise Maben Potter transitioned from this life on December 29, 2024, in Augusta, Georgia, at the age of 81. Born on August 15, 1943, in Augusta, Georgia, Dorothy was the cherished daughter of Noy Maben (Berlon Anthony) and Jennie Maben (Carrie Cook). She was a proud graduate of the Class of 1962 from Lucy Craft Laney High School and later attended Paine College. Dorothy pursued her passion in science through the MCG Histology Training Program, eventually becoming a Certified Histologist. Her dedication to her craft led to an impressive career, retiring as the Histology Supervisor at Ft. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, where she served with distinction for over 40 years. Dorothy was a devoted wife to Charles Potter, Sr. (Ret. Sgt. Major, Army) and the loving mother of Charles Potter, Jr. and Brandon Potter. She also leaves behind her siblings: Leon Maben, Rodney M. Brown, Vanita McKinnie, Dennis Cook, Bobby (Cleo) Anthony and Harriet Martin, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family members. Preceding her in rest are her husband, siblings Betty Ann Young, George Dunn, and Alfreddie Cook. A special mention is extended to her dear friend, Denise King, for her unwavering friendship and support. Dorothy had a warm and nurturing spirit, mentoring aspiring histology students and touching countless lives through her guidance and generosity. A member of Trinity C.M.E Church, Dorothy also enjoyed traveling supporting the Laney Museum and indulging in her favorite pastimes of reading newspapers and magazines, shopping, and watching soap operas. Her life is a testament to service, love, and excellence. Dorothy will be fondly remembered for her wisdom, her kindness, and her commitment to her family and community.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 10, 2025 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Kinsey & Walton Chapel.
