Mattie Mae Crowder Dunlap was born on July 19, 1939 in Wadesboro, North Carolina, to the late Matthew Crowder and Nellie Bennett Crowder Lomax. She was also reared by her stepfather, the late Frank Lomax. She departed this life on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point, North Carolina.
Mattie graduated from Anson High School in Wadesboro, North Carolina. She continued her education and received her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Mattie worked as an upholster at Woodmark Originals. Upon retirement, she then worked for Senior Resources as a caregiver providing compassion to those in need.
Mattie attended Pleasant Hill Church in Wadesboro, North Carolina and at young age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and became a disciple. She then moved to High Point, North Carolina and became a lifelong member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. While attending she served on the Missionary and Usher Ministries and assisted in the Culinary Ministry as needed. Her past time hobbies included: fishing, watching Steve Harvey Family Feud, Word Search Puzzles and preparing Thanksgiving dinner for her entire family. Mattie’s favorite scripture was Psalms 91 where she found confidence, protection and shelter in God.
She will be remembered for her humble spirit, loyalty and devotion to family and friends.
Mattie was preceded in death by her husband Eddie Dunlap; four brothers; Thomas Crowder, James Crowder, Henry Crowder, Frank Lomax, Jr. as well as a sister, Geneva Dean.
Left to cherish her precious memories is her only beloved daughter: Sandra Gilmore (Roscoe-deceased) of High Point, North Carolina; Two sisters: Mollie Neal of Charlotte, North Carolina and Etta Bennett of High Point, North Carolina. Godson; Timothy Simmons of High Point, North Carolina. Adopted sister and best friend; Azalee Simmons of High Point, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special thank you to Mr. Dwight Charles who showed unselfish kindness as her neighbor.
Funeral service will be held Monday, January 20, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at New Horizon Baptist Church, 401 Gordon Street. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and also on Friday, January 17, 2025 – Sunday, January 19, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the home of her daughter, 1602 Mossbrook Circle, High Point, NC. THERE WILL BE NO PUBLIC VIEWING.
