Obituary For Deborah Melton

MRS. DEBORAH “DEBBIE” CUNDIFF MELTON - Age 64, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015. She hoped in Christ and as she so often expressed her desire to go home, she is finally able to truly be home with God. She passed away with her children and family present with her in her last days and moments. Her life truly has been a miraculous gift. 12 years ago, she was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer and was given only months to live. We are incredibly thankful for the many moments and memories we've had with her. Debbie gave us a beautiful picture of the image and glory of God as she persevered through illness, cared for others, laughed at the quirks of her memory issues, and even in her worst health, her very presence was a gift. She will be missed, for a short time, until we are reunited with her in Christ, in heaven and the new earth. We can't wait to see her again, freed from her illness, her memory restored, and every tear wiped away. Debbie was an incredible woman, known for being caring, fun, and intelligent. She was a beloved teacher, a Star Teacher at Dalton High School, and a Dalton Education Foundation Teacher, having taught mathematics at Dalton High School and Dalton State College from 1976-2003. Even more, she was a dear friend to many, much loved daughter and sister, wonderful mother and grandmother, and loving and faithful wife. She was the wife of the late Greg Melton and is survived by her mother Betty Cundiff; her son, David, his wife Jenny, and their three children - Cade, Vance, and Mabry; her daughter Darrah, her husband Steve, and their two children - Sadie and Cal; her brothers Morgan and Tim and their families; and many other loving relatives and friends. The Melton family would like to thank all of their friends and family for their prayers, friendship, and support over all of these years. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 10:30am-12pm in the Atrium of First United Methodist Church in Dalton, GA. A memorial service to honor her life will take place at Dalton First United Church at 12pm with the Rev. Dr. Robin Lindsey officiating. Speaking during the service will Debbie’s son, David, and her longtime friends Lynn Laughter and Priscilla Brown. In lieu of flowers, Debbie would have loved for you to give to one of her favorite causes: Dalton State College Foundation, 650 College Avenue, Dalton, Ga 30720 or to Dalton First United Methodist Church White Christmas Fund, 500 S. Thornton Ave Dalton, GA 30720. Arrangements by Willis Funeral Home, Inc., Dalton, Georgia.
