PORT BARRE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Port Barre, LA for Mrs. Shirley Sylvester, 78, who entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 in Opelousas, LA. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery in Port Barre, LA.

Fr. Henry will celebrate the mass.

Mrs. Sylvester’s memories are being cherished by: her son, Oscar Sylvester, Jr. (fiancée Swandalyn Darby) of Lafayette, LA; one brother, Rufus Jones of Opelousas, LA; four sisters, Hazel Taylor of Port Barre, LA, Mary Alexander (Jimmy) of Kansas City, MO, Loretta Jones and Minnie Pickney, both of Opelousas, LA; one Goddaughter, Veronica Narcisse of Opelousas, LA; three grandchildren, Khaedaysjha Sylvester of Lafayette, LA, Ki’jana Sylvester of Baton Rouge, LA and Jarden Sylvester of Opelousas, LA; two bonus grandchildren, Sarell Barnes of Denver, CO and Jalen Barnes of Lafayette, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by: her husband, Oscar Sylvester, Sr.; her parents, Easton Thompson and Viola Jones; three brothers, Charles Stelly, Carl Thompson and George Thompson; and three sisters, Betty Pickney, Mary Viola Cole and Lois Charles.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m.
