Mrs. Sallie M. McLendon Boggan

Mrs. Sallie Mae McLendon Boggan, the daughter of the late William and Laura Caraway McLendon, was born on March 27, 1950 in Wadesboro, NC and departed her life on January 18, 2025 at home in Wadesboro, NC.

She confessed her life to Christ at an early age and became a member of East Rock Ford Missionary Baptist Church, Wadesboro, NC. Many years later, she became a member of Divine Unity House of Restoration Ministries, Wadesboro, NC.

Sallie was a devout and principled woman, known for her remarkable determination and strong character. She excelled in her roles as wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, consistently providing support to those she cared about. Sallie was steadfast in her commitment to justice and righteousness. Her accolades are too many to list, but a few consisted of: Union Steward, Caterer, Real Estate Broker, Licensed Cosmetologist, Substitute Teacher, Magna Cum Laude College Graduate with a double Master’s from NCCU, Advisor, Caretaker, Interior Decorator, Antique Collector, and Seamstress.

After graduating from Bowman High (’68), Sallie commenced her career in 1968 with Bellsouth in Charlotte, NC as an operator, computer attendant, and retired as a Line Translation Specialist. She demonstrated dedication to both her profession and her family, with a particular commitment to her faith. Her passion for studying the word and her desire to strengthen her relationship with God were prominent aspects of her life.

She was preceded in death by five brothers: William, Billy, Lewis, Thomas, and Amos McLendon; six sisters: Annie McLendon, Helen McLendon Crawford, Rebecca McLendon, Clarissa McLendon, Elaine McLendon Maye, and Nezzie McLendon; her nephews whom she reared: Robert McLendon Sr., Bobby McLendon, Fulton McLendon and Samel McLendon.

She is fondly remembered by her devoted husband, Mr. Clarence V. Boggan, Jr., and her children: Mr. Tevin (Farrah) Boggan of Durham, NC; Ms. LaTosha Boggan of Wadesboro, NC; Dr. LaKeisha Boggan of Wingate, NC; Mrs. Kristie (Richard) Williams of Gastonia, NC; Mr. Daryl Boggan of Washington, DC; and her godson Mr. Antoine Calloway of Charlotte, NC.

She is also survived by her loving brother, Mr. Larry McLendon of Wadesboro, NC, and her dear sister, Mrs. Sadie Billie of Lexington, NC.

She also cherished her nephew, Deacon Lewis (Pastor Sylvia) McLendon Sr. of Wadesboro, NC whom she helped raise.

Additionally, she leaves behind two step-daughters: Bridgette (Terrence) Sellars of Greensboro, NC and Tangela (Doug) Collins-Myers of Indian Trail, NC; eleven grandchildren: Breanna, Ajeya, Aubrey, Jordyn, Jada, Amiyah, Lola, Bryce, Kam, Sebastian, and Kylar; three step-grandchildren: Jason, Jackson, and Collin; two great-grandchildren: Amir and Amira; two nieces raised in the home, Mrs. Eveatte Flowers and Mrs. Shantel Wall; four brothers-in-law: Mr. Willie (Kim) Boggan of Harrisburg, NC; Mr. Edward Boggan and Mr. Kenneth (Katie) Boggan of Wadesboro, NC; Mr. Gregory Boggan of Burnsville, NC; five sisters-in-law: Mrs. Ollie Parker and Mrs. Mae Boggan of Wadesboro, NC; Mrs. Fannie (Octavious) Spruill of Greensboro, NC; Mrs. Francis McLendon of Thomasville, NC; and Mrs. Mickie Gilbert of New Jersey.

In life she was blessed with her closest friends: Mrs. Ernestine Richardson and Mrs. Goldie Deese. Mrs. Elizabeth “Liz” Brown preceded her in death.

Also left to cherish her memories are a grander host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The Services to Honor the Life of Mrs. Boggan will be on Sunday, January 26, 2025, 3:30pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will be in the family plot of Westview Memorial Park, Polkton, North Carolina.

The service will be live-streamed on Facebook at H.C. Smith Funeral Home.

The Boggan Family will receive friends at the Family Residence, 3655 White Store Road, Wadesboro, North Carolina 28170.

The public viewing will be on Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 4:30-6:00pm.
