Barry Lewis Hines, a loving father, devoted friend, and all-around Renaissance man, transitioned on January 19, 2025, surrounded by his beloved children after a courageous battle with leukemia. Barry’s kind and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, compassion, and kindness will forever be remembered by those fortunate enough to receive one of his many selfless acts.
Barry was born in Louisville, Georgia, to Mamie Lee Jenkins and Lonnie “Goodman” Hines. As a child, Barry was a quiet, mild-mannered, and intelligent young man—a stark contrast to the outgoing, charismatic, and life-of-the-party personality he grew into as an adult. A man of many talents and deep passions, Barry’s first love was cars. At just 16, Barry received $50 as a gift and, with remarkable foresight and determination, spent $45 on a 1964 Impala without wheels. He found some used tires, pushed the car home, and the rest was history. A skilled mechanic by both trade and love, Barry brought life to engines and joy to anyone who witnessed his ingenuity. His garage wasn’t just a workplace; it was his sanctuary—a space to create, innovate, and express his boundless creativity.
When he wasn’t under the hood of a car, Barry found solace in the deep, resonant notes of his bass guitar. Music was his heartbeat, and his bass lines became the soundtrack to countless family gatherings, jam sessions, and quiet evenings at home. During his time in New Jersey, Barry played with several bands, even transforming the basement of his house into a beloved rehearsal space. A devout and talented musician, Barry was especially proud to play with Fresh Anointing, a gospel band that allowed him to combine his love of music with his faith. His melodies and late-night practices are cherished memories that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
Above all, Barry was a devoted father to his children: Michael, Brittany, Aaron, and Cory, who were the pride and joy of his life. To Barry, no sacrifice was too great when it came to his children. He was also a father figure to many of his nieces and nephews, extending his love and guidance to anyone fortunate enough to be in his care. Barry led with humor, wisdom, and an unshakable commitment to family, instilling life lessons that will resonate for generations.
Barry’s love extended to his cherished grandchildren, Serenity Mia, Harley Rae, Hayden Lewis, and Cameron Chris, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his loving siblings, a host of nieces and nephews, and countless friends and family who will forever treasure the fond memories and laughter he brought into their lives.
Barry was the epitome of a devoted father, a gifted craftsman, a soulful musician, and a kind hearted man. He will be deeply missed and dearly remembered by all who loved him. After 13 years, Barry is reunited with his wife, Mia Hines, in eternal glory to live in God’s grace and at peace.
Until we meet again Daddy…please be sure to save a seat for us.
