Janice Marie Marshall (nee Hart), 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Elephant Butte, New Mexico, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, January 20, 2025.
Born on January 8, 1948, in Albuquerque, NM, to Von Hart and Dorothy Casida, Janice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She had a heart full of love that she shared freely, touching everyone she met with her warmth and contagious laugh. Janice’s presence was truly one of a kind—she made everyone feel like family and never met a stranger. She was strong, resilient, stubborn and loving.
In the 1960s and '70s, Janice competed in Powder Puff Races, a hobby that sparked her lifelong love of driving fast. A gifted homemaker, she excelled at baking, canning, sewing, and crocheting, always ensuring her home was warm, welcoming, and beautifully decorated. She took great pride in tending to her garden and plants.
Janice had a special place in her heart for her daily rituals—whether it was sipping coffee while watching her beloved reality TV shows, especially Judge Judy, or enjoying a trip to the casino. She also had a collection of oil lamps, each one a treasure. But above all, Janice’s greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her cherished dogs. She was never seen in shoes—she preferred to live life barefoot. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Janice is survived by her husband of 57 years, George L. Marshall; children: Rick (Shannon) Kennedy, of NM, Pam (Warren) Jepson of CO, Donna (Richard) Garcia of NC, Georgette (Lonnie) Isbell of TX, Meriah (Brian) Douglas of CO, and Joe Marshal of CO; 23 Grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren (with 2 more on the way!); siblings: Keith Hart of Albuquerque, NM, Bruce Hart of Elephant Butte, NM, Mike Lynch of San Lorenzo, NM, Lisa Lynch of T. or C., NM, and John Lynch of T. or C., NM; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her dad, Von Hart; mother, Dorothy Lynch; and sister, Sandy Hart, all of Elephant Butte, NM.
The family will announce a Memorial Service honoring Janice’s life at a later date.
