Brian Thomas

Passed 01/22/2025

On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the heavens opened, and God called Brian Lydell Thomas home. He was born on Sunday, August 18, 1974, in Quitman, Georgia, to Richard and Doris Thomas.

Brian was a devoted son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his father, Richard Thomas, his older brother Richard D. Thomas (India Thomas), and his younger sister Chiquita Thomas. He was a loving father to Markia S. Thomas and Brittany B. Brooks (Chadrick Brooks) and a proud grandfather to Scarlett Swift, Christian Thomas, Arie Swift, and Bailey Brooks, with another grandchild on the way.

He was a cherished uncle to his nephew, Elijah Thomas, and niece, Alivia Thomas.

Brian was also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of close friends and community members who knew and loved him.

Brian was a proud Valdosta Wildcats football player, playing under the legendary Coach Nick Hyder. As a running back, his speed and agility earned him the nickname "Bullet" on the field. Football was more than a game to Brian —it was a brotherhood, a passion, and a source of lifelong camaraderie.

A man of humility and quiet strength, Brian was a protector of those he loved. His bond with his brother, Richard ("Peabo"), was unbreakable. More than brothers, they were best friends, living by the modern meaning of the phrase, "Am I my brother's keeper?"

Brian was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether assisting his father with yard work or moving heavy furniture. He especially enjoyed working alongside his nephew, Elijah, forming a strong team that their grandfather could always count on.

He had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, and throughout his life, he always had a loyal companion, none more special than his beloved Rambo, named after one of his favorite childhood movies.

Brian had a way of connecting with the people around him. He knew the names of not only his neighbors and the people who walked by but also their pets, creating a sense of community wherever he went. His front porch was always open to those in need, offering comfort and a place to rest. However, when he said "Alright" and called your name, you knew it was time to go.

Brian will be remembered for his warm heart, his quiet strength, and his ability to cherish the simple things in life that many take for granted. He is deeply loved by all who knew him and will be profoundly missed.
