Mrs. Ella Mae Scott was born on August 5, 1945, to Mr. Lee Holliday and Ms. Mary Gardner.
Ella was educated at Lakeview High School in Lakeview, Arkansas graduating in 1963. Growing up and throughout her adulthood she was known by many as: Mae Ella, Mary Ella, or simply Mary. In the year of 1964, she moved to Chicago where she met and married Howard E. Scott in 1965, and to this union a daughter was born, Kimberly Scott in 1966. Howard and Ella enjoyed going to dinner, shows, and spending time with family and friends on the weekends.
She joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Snow Lake, AR at an early age and later joined Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Chicago. When Ella relocated to Crystal Springs, Mississippi she became a faithful member of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church serving in various capacities: Senior Mission, Sanctuary and Senior Choirs, Choir President, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, Pastor's Aide Ministry, Usher Ministry, Hospitality Committee and other areas as needed.
Ella worked at Continental Can Company for ten (10) years until 1978. After moving to Crystal Springs, Mississippi in 1978 she quickly became a part of the community working as a substitute teacher at Crystal Springs Jr. High School and at Havier Tool Factory in Byram, MS until their closing in 1984. Howard and Ella opened Scottie's Food and Game in Crystal Springs, Mississippi (store remains open), serving the best breakfast, chicken, and burgers. She loved cooking and she was an excellent cook. Ella came out of retirement and worked as a resident cook for ten (10) years at Willow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Byram, MS. She later became a cook at Copiah Living Center in Crystal Springs where she retired in 2024 due to health issues.
Mrs. Ella Mae Scott was proceeded in death by her parents (Lee and Mary Holliday), brothers (Wilbert, Tommy and Freddie) and sisters (Betty, Dorothy and Maggie)
Mrs. Ella Mae Scott leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Howard Earl Scott of Crystal Springs, MS. One daughter, Kimberly Ann Scott of Garland, TX. One sister, Willie Beatrice Birch of Kansas City, KS, a host of beloved nieces and nephews; special friends: Sis. Queen Esther Jenkins, Sis. Gloria Welch, Sis. Debbie (Dee Dee) Gordon, Sis. Celia Jackson, Sis. Trina Copeland- Murray, Sis. Robertha (Pat) Williams and Sis. Gloria Dean Boston and a host of many dear friends- younger and older.
