In Loving Tribute to Douglas Patrick Crawford, Jr.

A bright shining light who never met a stranger describes Douglas Patrick Crawford, Jr. He will be remembered as a good man – compassionate, caring, thoughtful, talented, adventurous and friend to all.

Doug’s journey began in South Memphis, the youngest son from the union of Douglas, Sr. and Sherlyn (Retic) Crawford. As a member of a large extended family, there were always cousins or neighborhood kids to spend time and have fun. He attended Lincoln Elementary, Longview and Hamilton Middle, Southside High and graduated from “The” Booker T. Washington High School. He was brought up lovingly in the church of his grandparents, Robert and Dessie Retic.

Always industrious, he had several jobs and was employed at various places all over the city. Yet one thing showcased his talents and sustained him for life – cooking. His love for cooking paved the way for his sense of adventure. Douglas served as a chef and line cook for Krystal’s, the Olive Garden, Fed Ex Forum, Char Restaurant, Bass Pro Shop, Hattie B’s, and Kirby Pines LifeCare Community. He loved to share about all the athletes and celebrities he met at the Forum.

One of his proudest achievements was his experience at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Doug loved what he did and always sought to brighten the day of his fellow co-workers, the families and patients.

While his local accomplishments were noteworthy, Doug was also able to share his talents outside of the city. His most adventurous time was spent cooking at the Denali National Park Princess resort in Alaska!

Doug made long-lasting friends wherever he went. It was not uncommon for him to travel to Las Vegas and elsewhere to hang out with friends or co-workers.

Doug’s love for his family was boundless. The close relationship he shared with his big brother Jarrod is inspirational. The life of the party – no celebration was complete without his smile or prepared dish.

Douglas Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Those left to carry on Douglas’ legacy of love and friendship include his brother Jarrod Crawford, niece Alexis, nephews Caden and Christian, aunts Doris Ann Retic, Vanessa Retic, Donna Crawford, Dianna Crawford, uncles Stanley Smith and John Retic and a host of other relatives and friends.

Douglas, Doug, Lil’ Doug, Lil’ Bro brought us flavor and sprinkled his light of love to all of us. He will forever be remembered and cherished.
