On Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 8:22 PM, Elizabeth (Liz) Kirkland Carter, 80, passed peacefully, entering into the gates of Heaven where she was greeted by her Heavenly Father and the loved ones who passed before her.
Liz was born on December 10, 1944, in Leesburg, Georgia to her parents, Esker and Myrtle Kirkland. She was the middle child born into a large family of 16 children.
Liz was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Her world revolved around her daughter, Tammi, and her granddaughter, Kaylee Elizabeth, her namesake. As a single mother, she raised her daughter to be independent and to have a strong work ethic, She prayed for those same attributes to be passed on to her granddaughter. Her happiest moments were the day her granddaughter was born, and the day her daughter graduated from Nursing School.
Liz loved her family and prayed fervently for each of them every day of her life.
She cherished those special relationships she maintained with her nieces, those relationships that brought so much love and light into her days.
She had a lifelong best friend of nearly 55 years. Her friendship with Peggy Bruner has stood the test of time. Through all of life’s ups and downs, their friendship has remained true.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Esker and Myrtle Kirkland; her husband, Daniel Pelham; and her 14 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Tammi Halstead (Michael) of Panama City Beach, Florida; her granddaughter, Kaylee Kirkland of Southport, Florida; her baby brother, Gary Kirkland of Putney, Georgia; and her many nieces and nephews.
Her family takes comfort in knowing there will be no more pain; the pain that riddled her body for the last 25 years. Her old body is whole and has been made new again. She is finally free from all that consumed her mind, body, and soul.
An intimate celebration will be planned with her family in Georgia, a future date and time to be determined.
