Harvey Lee Archer was born as the fifth of 6 sons to the late Joseph and F. S. Archer on April 10th, 1948, in Sandersville, Georgia. He grew up on a large farm where his family raised chickens and cows and grew almost everything they ate. He was a mild-mannered true country boy at heart.

In 1966, Harvey moved to the Atlanta-metro area for better job opportunities. In 1973 he attended the Ryder Truck Driving School. This led to a 37-year career as an 18-wheel CITY truck driver. He worked at several trucking companies: Carolina Freight, Bowman Motor, Mercury Motor Express, Reliable Express, and retired in 2010 from Conway Freight. He worked at Conway Freight for 22 years. While working at Conway Freight, he received the highest honor for safe no-accident driving earning him, The ONE MILLION MILES DISTINGUISHED DRIVER Award. This was quite an achievement to daily drive an 18-wheel tractor trailer in Atlanta’s heavy city traffic

After retiring, Harvey volunteered with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) becoming a father figure to four of “The Lost Boys of Sudan’, with whom he was still in touch. For 11 years he, alongside his wife, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, delivering meals weekly to the homebound.

He learned how to shoot pool while a member of the Lou Walker Senior Center. It became a favorite past time and eventually he took his love of the game to the American Legion Post 66, where he formed additional friendships with fellow pool players.

Harvey married Imogene M. Wilson in 1992. He became a member of Greenforest Community Baptist Church and has been a member for 20 years. He recently proved his love for the church by contributing to the new Capital Campaign Fund.

Bro. Archer is preceded in death by 3 of his brothers, Joe Louis, Robert, and James Archer.

He is survived by his wife, Imogene, her son, Robert Wilson, Jr., his two children from previous marriages, Shawn and Danielle Archer, his brothers, William and Lee Archer, a loving niece, Angela Davis, a loving nephew, Robert D. Archer, and a host of nieces and nephews.
