Catherine Beckom

Passed 02/10/2025

Catherine E. Beckom “Kitty” gained her wings February 10, 2025. Born to the late Jesse Beckom Sr. and Catherine Posey, she was the second youngest child out of six (preceeded in death by three of them: Samuel Beckom, James White, and Jesse Beckom Jr).

Catherine was born and raised in Chicago, IL where she graduated from Wendell Phillips High School in 1963. While attending, she was awarded the American Legion School Award for demonstrating great qualities of citizenship and character. She was also part of a small group called the 39’ners, created with a few of her life long high school friends, whose purpose was to serve and protect the community. The earlier years of her life were spent working, raising her late daughter Victoria R. Moseley, and being a loyal servant to God. While in Chicago she was baptized and became a member of New Covenant Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Stephen J. Thurston. In 1993 she moved to the south and became a member of Jackson Memorial Baptist church in Atlanta, GA under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Gregory A. Sutton. Then in 2017 she relocated to Augusta, GA to move closer to family. There she became a member of Restoration Ministries International under the leadership of Dr. Michael Mitchell.

Most of Kitty’s life work was primarily in customer service. She specialized in it because she was good at helping people. Whether it was teaching Sunday school, or on the usher board and bus committee, she always dedicated her time and resources to make sure everyone was educated and content. Her hobbies included sewing, puzzles, home renovation, talking on the phone, watching movies, and reading the Bible. Stubborn as she was, her last 15 years were spent traveling the country working for FEMA as a reservist helping disaster victims. She couldn’t sit down even if she tried. To have met her was a blessing but to have known her meant that she touched your life in a special way.

Although Catherine was everyone’s Grandma, sister, auntie, cousin and best friend the people she leaves behind to cherish her memories are: siblings, Julia Fisher and Albert Beckom: grandchildren, Lynda and Jerome Moseley: great grand children, Victoria, Kendra, Kenneth, Jerome Jr., Marley, Landon and Amari Moseley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, high school friends, and FEMA coworkers across the country.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Restoration Ministries.
