Louise Pepper Lewis

LTC (R) Louise Pepper Lewis was born July 4, 1962, in Canton, Mississippi (MS) to Hildred Pepper, Sr. and Angeline Pickett Pepper and gained her heavenly wings on Monday, February 17, 2025, in Springfield, Virginia (VA).

Louise accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Vaughan,MS. She has continued her devotion to Christ throughout her life and was a member of Woodlawn Faith United Methodist Church in Alexandria, VA at her passing. Louise received her early education at Linwood Elementary School in Vaughan, MS and was a 1980 graduate of Benton High School in Benton, MS. She continued her education at Jackson State University (Thee I Love) where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Business Management in 1984. While at Jackson State University, Louise was an active and respected member of the Reserve Officers' Training Corp (ROTC). She was also crowned Ms. ROTC in 1983.

Also, while at Jackson State University, Louise met and married COL (R) Steve Lewis. On June 26, 2024, Louise and Steve marked forty-two (42) glorious years of marriage. To this union, three children were born: Steven, Cameron, and Keris. After graduating college, she joined the United States Army where she served for 20 years, retiring in May 2004 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Louise's life passions included her family, her sorority (Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.), her membership of the Order of the Eastern Star, Heroines of Jericho, cooking, and simply being among friends and family. She was affectionately known as "Destiny", "Sista Soldier", and "LL Cool J or Cool J" by her military and sorority families. She served as President for the Pickett-Whisenton Family Reunion organization, and Finance Chair for her church along with serving for many other activities. Louise leaves to cherish and celebrate her life her loving mother Angeline Pepper of Vaughan, MS, her devoted husband, COL (R) Steve Lewis of Springfield, VA, her dedicated children Steven (Melissa) of Richmond, VA, Cameron of Oxon Hill, MD and Keris of Springfield, VA; her siblings Hildred, Pepper Jr. (Lydia) of Ft. Washington, MD, Major Pepper of Vaughan, MS, Lillie Carson (Jimmy) of Byram, MS, Reuben Pepper of Vaughan, MS and Sharon Gaddis (Fredrick) of Madison, MS. She will be forever cherished by her grandson Cameron Jasai Lewis and her future grandson C. Jasir Lewis. Louise was preceded in death by her father Hildred Pepper, Sr. and twin brother, Louis Pepper. She also leaves a host of relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
