Mrs. Tempie B. Relf Ivey, 86, of Columbus, GA passed Tuesday, February 25, 2025 in Columbus, GA.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Greater Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church located at 3000 12th Ave, Columbus, GA. Burial to follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. Public viewing is 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. EST on Monday, March 3, 2025.

Tempie Belinda Relf Ivey, born on June 21, 1938, in Gordonville, Alabama (Lowndes County) to the late Jonas Relf, Sr. and Tempie Coleman Relf, departed this life on February 25, 2025 for her heavenly home.

Tempie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Saint Paul AME Church in Hurtsboro, Alabama. She graduated from Russell County Training School in 1956 in Hurtsboro, Alabama. Later in life she attended Columbus Technical College and received a certificate in Business Management. She was also a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).


In November 1957, Tempie married Thomas James Ivey, Sr. in Crown Point, Indiana relocating to Columbus, Georgia. Thomas and Tempie’s union was blessed with five children. They joined the Greater Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Jessie James Ivey, Sr. (father-in-law) where she served faithfully. Her servant ministries include Church Mother, Usher, 50 Plus ministry, Deacon's Wives, Mary A. Hawkins Missionary, and as a Sunday School teacher. Within her community she served the Mount Calvary Baptist Association (Fourth District) and the Usher Alliance.

Tempie and her husband Thomas, Sr., owned and operated Ivey’s Supermarket, located in Phenix City, Alabama, for 40 years. She also worked for Cobb Hospital, Litho-Krome Printing Company, Deerfield Nursing Home, and Muscogee County School District (Wynnton Arts Academy).

Tempie was preceded in death by her parents Jonas Relf, Sr. and Tempie Coleman Relf, husband, Deacon Thomas James Ivey, Sr.; son, Thomas James Ivey, Jr., father and mother-in-law, Rev. Jessie James and Eron Harper Ivey; siblings, Joe A. Coleman, Annie B. Seals, Callie Relf, Henrietta Davis, Mary Jackson, Bertha Upshaw, Jonas Relf, Jr., Sam Relf, and Lee Relf.

Tempie leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Theodora N. Ivey, Valencia D. Ivey and Audrey Ivey Toney (J. Bernard); one son, Herman J. Ivey (Janett); one sister, Lillie Womack; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Ivey Douglas (Fredrick) and Juanita Relf; four granddaughters, Erika N. Toney, Cassandra D. Fullenwarth (Ruben), Alexis D. Jorgensen (Caleb), Elisabeth D. Ivey; one grandson, Michael A. Toney; two great-grandsons, Ezekiel and Matthew Fullenwarth and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and others who called her “Mother Ivey”.
