Rufus Morrison, Jr., born in Brooks County on September 20, 1952 to the late Mr. Rufus Morrison Sr., and Mrs. Sophonia Wilma Ward Morrison. He attended and graduated from Brooks County Public Schools and was a veteran of the United States Army. He returned to Georgia and began working for Langboard where he worked for more than 36 years and was affectionately called “Prime Tyme.”

His commitment to serving the Lord is evident in his life. Rufus joined New Salem Missionary Baptist Church as a youth. He was later ordained as a Deacon and served as a musician, where he played the lead guitar. His favorite scripture was John 14:1, and his favorite hymn was “A Charge To Keep I Have.”

His love for music encouraged him to form a gospel group in the late 1970s entitled the Gospel Cloud, in 1990s The Southerners, The Edward Brothers and later The Brooks County Male Chorus. The group would travel throughout the United States performing for various churches and gospel events. Rufus love of music did not end there as he also served as backup musician for other gospel quartet groups.

On February 22, 2025, Rufus departed this early life to be with his Father in heaven. To carry on his memories, he leaves behind his wife, Cheryl Morrison; five children, Donna Morrison, Dawn Morrison, Reginald (Natalie) Morrison, Kim Morrison, and Carmen Morrison; three bonus children, Eric Chappell, Jasmine Chappell, and Chezaray Chappell; and twenty grandchildren.

Rufus is survived by nine siblings: Willie (Lillian) Ward, John (Lara) Morrison, Doris Morrison Williams, Evelyn Morrison, Carson Morrison, Ester Morrison Mobley, Ruth (David) Morrison Ward, Gladys Morrison Simmons, and Melvin Morrison; four sisters-in-law, Veronica Virgil, Robin Forde, Tamika (Twuan) Adams, and Shayla Forde and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Rufus and Mrs. Sophonia Morrison; three siblings, Margie Taylor, Cornish Ward and Saulton Morrison.

Visitation will be Friday, February 28, 2025 at the Stevens-McGhee chapel from 1PM-7PM.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, March 1, 2025 at The Church of God in Unity, 709 Boundary Street, Quitman, GA at 2:30PM. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visit this website or our Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home Facebook page to view a livestream of the celebration.
