Charlie Jackson, Jr.

Passed 02/25/2025

Charlie Milton Jackson, Jr. was born on May 27, 1943, to the union of Charlie Milton Jackson, Sr. and Willie Mae Sharpe Jackson in Morven, Georgia. He transitioned peacefully at his home on Jackson Road on February 25, 2025, after a brief illness, surrounded by the love and support of his family.

He attended Morven Rosenwald School where he played basketball and was in the chorus. During his youth, he served in many leadership roles and graduated from Washington Street School.

Charlie was joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Josephine Ausgood, and to this union were born eight children.

An especially hardworking provider for his family, Charlie retired from his career as a forklift driver at YRC Freight in 2020 after four decades of service and received recognition for his meritorious service.

He was raised on the family’s expansive farmland that has provided tobacco and cotton to the surrounding community for over five generations. The oldest son, Charlie was the first to build his house on Jackson Road (where most of his siblings currently reside) and served as the beloved patriarch of the family until his death.

Throughout his life, Charlie was known for his kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to his work as a gentle giant and friend to many. A quiet spirit full of wisdom, he spent over 40 years as a devoted teacher of life, inspiring others with his passion for history and biblical studies. Charlie believed that education and the love of God were key to a better future and instilled that belief in everyone he encountered, particularly his children. An especially joyful person, Charlie enjoyed attending and worshiping with like-minded individuals at church, watching and playing all types of sports, and sharing stories with joyous laughter. His sense of humor was infectious, and Charlie enjoyed a good rapport with all that he met. His legacy of helping others with devoted compassion will continue to inspire all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by both parents, three children, Carolyn Nelson, Debbie Jackson, and Michael Jackson: one grandchild, Toni Jackson and his brother Andrew “AJ” Jackson IV.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 59 years Josephine Ausgood Jackson; sons, Kenneth L. Jackson, Morris (Vernice) Simmons, Charlie M. (Maria) Jackson III, Anthony (Joslyn) Jackson and Kevin Jackson; two daughters, Sharon Jackson and Ashley Jackson (Rashid) Harris; five siblings, Oglesby Lee (Sarah) Jackson, Sr., Voncell Patricia Jackson Vance and Fannie Marie Gibbs (Bessemer, AL), Laverne Myrtice (Paul) Diggs (Jackson, TN), and Alvin Wayne (Janice) Jackson.

His memory is also dearly cherished by his fifteen grandchildren, Konner & Kaitlin Jackson; Morris, Jr., Sabrina and Michael Simmons, Macy Hayes; Erin, Lauren, Morgan, and Anthony Jackson; Antania Green and Diamonde Henderson; Demetrius Jackson and Kanika Williams, and Lorenzo (Harris) Lloyd; four great-grandchildren, Kayden, Kyndall, Trey & Kar’ri McGhee; Sisters-in-Law, Deloris Ann Jackson and Sarah Jackson, and Brother-in-law, Victor Ausgood, and a special devoted niece, Felicia Jackson Blake.

His memory will be forever cherished by a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends on Jackson Road, in Brooks and Lowndes Counties, and around the country.

Visitation will be Friday, March 7, 2025 at the Stevens-McGhee Chapel from 12PM-7PM.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 11AM at Courtland Avenue Church of Christ with Bro. Alvin Daniels, officiating. Burial will follow in New Macedonia Church Cemetery in Morven, GA. Visit this website or our Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home Facebook page to view a livestream of the celebration.
