Gloria Scott

Passed 03/01/2025

Gloria Jo Jones-Scott of Harrisburg, PA, was born to the late James Pitts and Nora Jones. She entered eternal rest on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Penn State Hershey Milton S. Hershey Medical Center surrounded by love with her family by her side.

Gloria Jo was a 1968 graduate of the former John Harris High School. She retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles as a supervisor in 2005 after 35 years of dedication and service.

Gloria Jo Scott took on the motherlike role at a very young age. Being the eldest of seven siblings, she embraced it with grace and leadership, which extended to her entire family. Anyone who encountered her felt the true spirit of a loving mother. Gloria ensured that everyone felt valued and cared for. Embodying the true essence of selflessness, she would give the clothes off her back to anyone in need. Always a mother to all, Gloria Jo was the ultimate hostess. Her home was always a place for family gatherings and holidays. You would always find a warm meal, with her signature dishes being spinach dip, sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, potato and macaroni tuna salad, to name a few. Her unwavering dedication to family and community set the foundation for future generations. She led with wisdom beyond her years, being an example of kindness, resilience, and unconditional love. Gloria’s nurturing spirit left an undeniable mark on the lives she touched, making her not just the matriarch of her family but a pillar of strength, generosity, and inspiration for all who knew her.

Gloria enjoyed plants; every spring, she would plant flowers and care for them. She loved to knit and crochet blankets, planters, etc. As she aged, she spent her free time watching American Idol, the Voice, and various reality shows. If you wanted to put a smile on her face, just take her to the casino to play the slot machines or purchase her a scratch-off or lottery ticket.

Her biggest joy was her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; who lovingly called her “Nana”. Not a day would pass without her speaking to and spending time with her grandbabies. They were the main topic of every discussion to any listening ear, willing or not.

In addition to her parents, Gloria Jo was preceded in death by her brothers, Leondis “Lee” Jones, Stanley “Buttons” Jones, and David Jones, and her sisters, Annette “Nettie” Jones-Morales (Alfonso) and Linda Jones. She leaves to carry on her legacy her daughters, Trina Pitts-Khalfani (Akil) of Harrisburg, PA, and Tera Stern (Jermaine) of Silver Spring, MD. Her brother, Larry Pitts (Rochelle), her sister, Carolyn Jones of Harrisburg, PA and her sister-in-law, Mary Scott of Carlisle, PA, and Debbie Jones of North Carolina and her special cousins, who were like brothers, Michael Jones (Dolorez) and Eric Jones of Harrisburg, PA.
