Mamie Lou Jefferson

06/04/1931 - 03/18/2025

Mamie Lou Jefferson, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025 at the age of 93. Born on June 4, 1931, to the late Lula and Tommy Hill Sr., and also raised by the late Mamie Jordan. Mamie lived a life rich in love, faith, and dedication to her family and community.

Preceding her in death was her daughter, Cathy Yvette Jefferson. Mamie leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and strength through her surviving family: her daughter, Edith Diane Jefferson, and her sons, Donald (Mary) Jefferson, Edward Saroyan (Brenda) Jefferson, and Gregory Jefferson. She was a doting grandmother to 12 grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to 21 great- grandchildren, as well as a great-great-grandmother to one precious great- great-grandchild. Mamie will also be remembered fondly by her two sisters, Carrie Mae Hill and Annie Champion, and her sister-in-law, Martha Hill, along with a host of nieces and nephews who were fortunate enough to know her warmth and kindness.

Mamie dedicated a significant part of her life to her career, serving as an employee at union point elementary school, where she touched the lives of countless children and families. Her passion for nurturing and educating reflected her deep commitment to the community, which she served with love and grace.

A devout member of the new Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, Mamie actively participated in the choir, the mission team, and the mothers board, bringing her vibrant spirit and joyous voice to every gathering. She was also a proud member of the Greensboro Eastern Star #345, where she made many lasting friendships and contributed to her community.

Outside of her commitments to family and faith, Mamie enjoyed hobbies that brought her joy. She loved working in her yard and cherished camping trips with her dear friend, Mrs. Mary Matthews. Fishing trips with her beloved "Mae girls" Gracie Mae, Willie Mae, and Georgia Mae were among her favorite pastimes, filled with laughter and unforgettable memories. Mamie also loved spending hours talking on the phone with friends, sharing stories, and staving connected with those she held dear. And also special ones close to her, the ladies of New Springfield Mission, Mother Board and Choir, co-worker Yvonne Heidbrider, Greene County Board of Education and family, one true Missionary, Mrs. Leola Dunn, extra daughters Lisa and Rita Lewis, Deborah Jewel and bonus niece Jackie Dunn.
