DEACONESS CARROLL AVON HENDRICK BASKERVILLE, affectionately called “Avon”, daughter of the late Hannibal and Luella Jones Hendrick was born January 15, 1935 in Palmer Springs, VA and departed this life March 12, 2025 in Jefferson Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. She was also preceded in death by a son- Willie Jr. “Tuna”; grandson- Kenneth B. Staley, II; granddaughters- Dionna C. Samuel and Talia W. Baskerville; three brothers- Wilbert, John, and Charles Hendrick.

At an early age she was baptized and joined Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Palmer Springs, VA.

She attended Cotton Creek School and graduated from Warren County Training School, Wise, NC.

Avon later met and married the late Willie Roy Baskerville, Sr., on February 24, 1956. They later moved to Philadelphia, PA. She was a faithful member of Monumental Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA. She was employed as a surgical technician nurse for many years until her retirement.

On April 14, 1989 they moved back to Virginia. Soon thereafter, she began working at Community Memorial Hospital in the operating room as a technician. Then she went on to work at the Mecklenburg House and lastly at Lake Country Area Agency on Aging with the Day Support Center until her second and final retirement. She reaffirmed her membership with Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Boydton, VA. She also was a faithful attendee of Free Union Church with her husband, Deacon Willie R. Baskerville, Sr. where she became a Deaconess.

In her spare time, Avon enjoyed fishing, cooking and doing crossword puzzles. She also loved watching her favorite shows on TV: Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith, and Sanford and Son.

Avon leaves to mourn four children- Bernadette (Kenneth) Staley, Anita Shaw, and Warren (Patricia) Baskerville, all of Philadelphia, PA; Wade (Debra) Baskerville, South Hill, VA; daughter-in-law, Moneak Baskerville, Philadelphia, PA; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Eleanor (Rev. Willie) Tisdale; France B. Jones, and Mertis Baskerville, all of South Hill, VA; Mildred (Nathaniel) Bing, Washington, DC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Life is full of many things, some happy and some sad. To others just part of the past; but to us who lost you, your memory will always last.
