Willie Edward Brooks, was born on July 31, 1938. He departed this life on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the age of 86, Willie was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Willie was born to the late James Bruce Brooks Sr. and Annie Sue Ratliffe Brooks Hammond. Willie was born in Summerfield and grew up with a deep appreciation for the Lord. He attended James B Dudley and graduated from Laughlin School in Summerfield. Upon graduation, Willie enrolled at Modern Barber College in Winston Salem, NC where he studied barber science and graduated in 1959. Starting his career when he was 18 and retired when he was 82.

Throughout his distinguished career, Willie thoroughly enjoyed his life in the barber shop. He was so proud to serve the East Market St. community. He enjoyed servicing the students at North Carolina A&T State University, clients in a variety of nursing homes, and those who entered “Service Barber Shop”. It was common for him to pay a house visit and set up shop at family gatherings. Service Barber Shop was located under the bridge on East Market St. where Willie was the proprietor of this traditional barber shop until retirement. From the chrome and leather chairs to the combs soaking in the blue Barbicide. He would arrive promptly at 6 AM and be ready to serve. This was undoubtedly the place where community news was disseminated, lots of laughs and connecting people of all walks of life. His dedication and hard work earned him respect and admiration from his customers. With him “What happens at the barber shop stays at the barbershop”!

Willie was a devoted member of Genesis Baptist Church in Greensboro NC. He enjoyed singing in the Inspirational chorus and the Male chorus.

Willie leaves to mourn a devoted wife, Earline Brooks, and three children Tonda B. Glover, Donna M. Hatch, (Keith A. Hatch) and Zachary A. Brooks (Dana Valdes Brooks) Three grandchildren; Z. Jalen, Trinity Lynn, and Aria N. Brooks. A special devoted cousin Nathaniel Burkes, Brother James B Brooks II (predeceased) and Charles Hayes, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Willie Edward Brooks will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit. His legacy lives on through his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, March 23,2025 1:30pm Genesis Baptist Church 2812 East Bessemer Avenue Greensboro, North Carolina. Visitation 1pm.

Entombment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery 3600 North O’Henry Boulevard Greensboro, North Carolina.
