OBITUARY:

Lenwood Lee Smith was born July 19, 1959, the first of four children, to Marvin Wayne and Ethrea Ree Smith. As a young boy he joined Fox Street Church of Christ under the leadership of the late Brother Monroe Mack. He was active in many areas of the church including the choir and a devotional leader. With a love for singing, Lenwood, along with his siblings, formed a choir singing at various church programs and functions.

Lenwood’s formal education began at Willie Wilson Elementary School and concluded at Grenada High as a member of the 1979 graduating class. After graduating, Lenwood joined the Army National Guard receiving an Honorable Discharge after 27 years of service in 2005. Lenwood’s professional career crossed many areas including, Police Officer, Police Chief, Aircraft Mechanical Engineer, and Manufacture Assembly Supervisor at Nissan. His ability, work ethic and vast skillset made him an employee any organization would be privileged to have on staff. Lenwood always exhibited a “Can Do” attitude and function by,“What I know, I Do”, “ What I Don’t Know, I Learn” and then I Do. Working as unto God in an excellent spirit and manner.

Lenwood can be accredited with serval accomplishments. As a boy scout, Lenwood obtained the Life Scout Ranking and later served as a Scout Master. He served as President of FFA (Future Farmers of America) and had the honor of serving as the first Black Canine Officer on the Grenada Police Force.

One day in 2016, while shopping in Home Depot, Lenwood met the love of his life, Sonya, whom he affectionately referred to as His Sweet Honey Lamb Chop. They were united in holy matrimony on January 18, 2018. They enjoyed traveling, seeing and trying new things. They loved each other and lived life together to the fullest.

Lenwood never met a stranger, was the life of the party, even when there was no party, and loved to make people laugh. To know him was to love him and although his humor will be missed, the smiles will continue with every thought of him.

On March 29, 2025, Lenwood transitioned from works to reward receiving his “Well Done!” He is proceeded in death by his parents, Marvin Wayne and Ethrea Ree Smith. He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife, Sonya J. Smith, three daughters: Shelby Wiggins, Alexus O. Smith, and Brittaney (Keith) Spann; two sons: Steven (Charise) Samuel, Ralph Thompson, Jr.; grandchildren: Jacarei J. Walls, Kayden Spann, Kaleb Spann, and A’Shad Samuel; two brothers: Nathan Smith and Kermit (Miriam) Smith; one sister: Rosie (Leonard) ; mother-in-love: Vida C.
