Theresa Ann Bannister, aged 78, passed away on March 26, 2025, at Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell. She was born in Dalton, GA on August 29, 1946, to George Luthre Bannister and Christine B. Gay. She graduated from Emery Street High School in 1965 before relocating to Trenton, where she attended Rider College.
Theresa, known to many as Terri, was previously employed by New Jersey Manufacturers. She subsequently held state positions at NJ Fish and Game and Department of Environmental Protection before retiring as a Senior Clerk Typist in December 2009 from Albert C. Wagner Youth Correctional Facility. She served the state of New Jersey for over 35 years.
Terri was known for her unwavering kindness and generosity. She was always willing to help others, whether it meant offering a ride to someone in need, sharing valuable information to help solve dilemmas, or simply lending an ear to listen to someone's troubles. Her empathy and compassion were evident in every interaction, making her a cherished friend and confidant to many.
Her diverse entertainment brought her great joy and relaxation. She took pleasure in attending church with her grandchildren, elegantly dressed in her suits and hats, socializing with friends, watching soaps, western movies, and shows on BET, Stellar, and TheGrio channels.
She was predeceased by her parents, George Luthre Bannister and Christine B. Gay; brother, Edward Luthre Bannister; stepfather, Leo Gay; grandson, Watson Cogdell Jr.; daughter, Christine Marie Tyson; sister, Freda Diane Maynard.
Terri memory will always be cherished by her son Marcus (Julia) Tyson; daughter, KaSandra (Robert) Tyson-Ingram; seven grandchildren, Robert Ingram 5th, Keyonne Ingram, RaSaun Ingram, Marsaunah Tyson, Korionna Tyson, Key’Ara Ingram and Key’Asia Ingram; one great granddaughter, Kiley Jallah; two nieces, Elisa (Derrick) Disroe and Tewanna Ferguson; two great nieces, Celina Bonds, Zoee Disroe; one great nephew, Zion Disroe; one great-great niece, Aurora Bonds; four step-children, Kimberly Meadows, Thomas Tyson, Tiasha (Brian) Tyson-Williams, Amin Tyson; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 11am Friday, April 11, 2025 at Galilee Baptist Church, 440 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ. Arrangements by Hughes Funeral Home, Trenton, NJ.
