Mary Elizabeth Gibson, affectionately known as "Aunt Babe," passed away on April 8, 2025, at the age of 76, after courageously battling cancer. She was born on September 14, 1948, in Hartwell, Georgia, to the late James "Jim" Alexander and Annie Ruth Brown. She was a beloved wife and mother who left a legacy of love and resilience. She was preceded in death by thirteen sisters and seven brothers.
Mary graduated from Hart County High School and later settled in High Point, NC, where she dedicated herself to building a warm and loving home, filled with laughter and cherished moments that would become the foundation of countless joyful memories.
Mary worked in the Home Healthcare field for ten years, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of those she cared for. She was sweet, loving, and always quick to share a laugh, bringing joy to her family and friends. During her quiet moments, Mary loved immersing herself in her favorite Western movies and completing crossword puzzles that challenged her mind. Her adventurous spirit thrives in shopping and traveling, always eager to explore new places and create memorable experiences.
Mary leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories that will always be held close to the hearts of her loved ones. As a devoted wife, she shared a beautiful journey with her husband, Hubert Gibson, for an incredible forty-three years. She was also a proud mother of one son, Anthony Gibson. Mary is lovingly remembered by her two sisters: Barbara Gibson of High Point, NC, and Lurie Brown of Concord, NC; her goddaughter, Sierra Kabir of Raleigh, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Congregational United Church of Christ, 401 Gordon Street.
