Obituary For Lonnie Ruth Jackson Means

Lonnie Ruth Jackson Means entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 23, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Gary Roy Jackson and Lillie Ruth Clark Jackson. Mrs. Means was born October 4, 1940.

Lonnie Ruth attended Bethune High School in Inman, SC, where she excelled in basketball and other extra curriculum activities. After retirement from Inman Mills, she continued her education at the Adult Learning Center, while learning all she could about computers.

She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church for over 60 years and faithfully served on the Hospitality Committee.

Survivors include: her loving husband of over 50 years, Walter J. Means; her son, Michael (Stephanie) Whiteside of Little Africa, SC; her daughters, Rhonda Sowell of Inman, SC, Gwendolyn (Gerald) Proctor of Little Africa, SC and Valorie (Joaquin Arcega) Whiteside of Inman, SC; her brothers, Leon D. (Annie Sue Henry) Jackson of Baton Rouge, LA, Lawrence C. Jackson and Lewis K. Jackson both of Spartanburg, SC, Lamar (Barbara) Jackson of Moore, SC, Louie Ray (Karyn) Jackson, Linder (Jean) Jackson and Gary L. (Kimberly) Jackson all of Inman, SC; her sisters, Lucille J. Waddell of Spartanburg, SC, Dr. LaVerne (Robert) Jackson-Harvey of Charlotte, NC; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; her two great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John Larry Jackson “Black Jack”.

A Celebration of the Life of Lonnie Ruth Means will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 34 Blackstock Road, Inman, SC. Dr. Richard L. Sadler will officiate. Burial will be in the Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens, 4164 Boiling Springs Rd., Boiling Springs, SC.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Proctor, 560 Old Mill Road, Chesnee, SC 29323.
