Eldred Charles “El-Dog” Hugley

Mr. Eldred Charles Hugley, affectionately known as "El-Dog" to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home in Opelika, Alabama, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. Born on March 27, 1970, in Lee County, Alabama, Eldred was the cherished son of the late Mr. James Hugley, Sr. and Mrs. Annie Rene Robinson Evans, and the beloved stepson of Bennie Charles Evans.

Eldred was a proud graduate of Opelika High School, where he was a member of the class of 1988. His early education laid the foundation for a life characterized by a strong work ethic and a commitment to his community. Eldred's spiritual journey was deeply rooted in his studies with Jehovah's Witnesses, which guided him throughout his life and provided him with a sense of purpose and direction.

Known for his love of sports, Eldred was a die-hard Auburn Football fan and an avid supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs. His passion for football was matched only by his love for Kansas City, where he lived for several years, immersing himself in the local culture and community.

Eldred's professional life was marked by his tenure as a professional driver, a career that allowed him to explore new places and meet people from all walks of life. His work was not just a job but a reflection of his adventurous spirit and his desire to always keep moving forward.

In his personal life, Eldred was a man of many interests and talents. He had a particular talent for cooking, especially grilling, which he often showcased during family gatherings and social events. Additionally, Eldred found solace and relaxation in fishing, a hobby that allowed him to connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by: one brother, James Hugley, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory: three children, Daona Dumas of Opelika, AL, Eldred Jones of Augusta, GA and Omaurria Bruce of Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren, Haylee Bennett, Sariyah Reese both of Opelika, AL, Carson Jones and Nariyah Jones both of Augusta, GA; six sisters, Rachael Robinson, Akemi (Karelton) Dunovant, Susan Hugley, Elanie Edwards, Melanie (Willie) Williams and Dr. Mildred Watson all of Opelika, AL; five brothers, Timothy Evans, Tony Edwards, Alexious (Nakia) Hugley all of Opelika, AL, Ivan (Nicole) Hugley of Montgomery, AL and Montavious Robinson of Kansas City, MO; special cousin and friend, Reginald “Frog” Wooten of Opelika, AL; longtime friend, Ronnie Christian of Opelika, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Public viewing for Eldred Hughley, 55, of Opelika, AL, will be from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Harris Funeral Home Chapel.
