Norman Joseph Mavencamp, 101, passed away peacefully in Truth or Consequences, NM, on April 10, 2025. He was born on February 12, 1924, in Minneapolis, MN, to Mildred Olsen Mavencamp and Joseph A. Mavencamp. His family moved to Montana when he was a small child, and he spent the rest of his life there.
Norman was a proud WWII Army veteran and a member of the 758th Railway Battalion, stationed in India and around the world—an adventure that eventually took him to the West Coast before returning to New York City.
On February 13, 1949, Norman married the love of his life, Bernice Klinger, in a double wedding with her sister Helen and her husband Chris. Norman raised his family in Saco, MT.
Norman loved to dance and enjoyed chair yoga. He participated in the Senior Olympics, where he proudly earned many first-place medals. He was also a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.
He is survived by his children: Linda Harlan (William), Gary Mavencamp (Veronica), Sherri Peignenx (Gene), and Larry Mavencamp (Sascha); his stepdaughter, Debra Schaff (Tim); grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchild; and many numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bernice, and his brother, Harvey Mavencamp.
Cremation has taken place, and Norman will be laid to rest beside his wife in Montana at a later date.
