Hattie Mae Norman

Passed 04/18/2025

Hattie Mae Norman was born on April 11, 1933, in Creswell, NC, to the late Grant Harris and Lucreecy Boughton. She attended elementary and high school in Creswell.

Hattie met the love of her life, Robert Harold Norman, also of Creswell, NC, and they were married on April 28, 1951. Nine children were born from their union. She and Robert later moved to Baltimore, MD, in 1952. In 1954, they moved to Newark, NJ. Hattie remained in Newark until 2021, returning to Garner, NC, until the Lord called her home on April 18, 2025.

While in Newark, she joined the Little Friendship Baptist Church. She was a faithful member there for over thirty years, serving with the Deaconess Ministry and the Kitchen Committee.

Hattie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She loved to sing, cook, shop, and travel. One of her most favorite things to do was helping others. She always had a joke to tell, and she kept you laughing. She loved her family with all her heart. Hattie never met a stranger. She believed and trusted in God. One of her favorite sayings when things got rough was, “There’s a Lord up there.”

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Lucreecy; brothers, Charles, Collie, Dennis, Herbert, Andrew Paul, and Alton Rayfield; sisters, Laura, Roxana, Ethel, Agnes, Henrietta, and Nancy; children, Jacqueline Faye and Phillip Ray; grandchildren, Denise Elizabeth and Azeezuddin; great-grandchildren, Barry Bernard and Tanaisha; and great-great-grandchildren, Zaire Tawone.
