Barbara Muriel Johnson (Campbell)

12/06/1939 - 03/31/2025

Barbara Muriel Johnson (Campbell), daughter of Cyril Campbell and Muriel Gauntt was born December 6, 1939, in Boston, Massachusetts. She departed this earth peacefully Monday, March 31st, 2025, in Alexandria, Virginia.

She received her early education in the public schools of Boston, Massachusetts and graduated with honors from Roxbury Memorial High School in June 1957. After graduating from high school, she went on to serve our nation as a Fuels Analyst for the Air Force Fuels Division, Cameron Station, Alexandria VA. Her federal work experience included working as a Program Analyst in support of National Emergency exercises as well as a myriad of positions as Detachment Security Officer, Training Monitor, Telephone Control Officer, Functional Area Documentation Manager, and the Detachment Administrative Officer with accommodations from the Department of Justice and Judge Advocate General; an Inventory Management Specialist developing Fuel Logistical summaries for military bases nationwide and responsible for worldwide procurement and distribution of aviation fuels in support of Air Force Installations amassing multiple superior performance award and letters of Commendation.

In 1963, she met a young gentleman and started commuting to her new job with him to Hanscom Air Force Base. On the 12th day of December 1964, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Joseph Edward Johnson Jr, (CMSGT, USAF, ret.). and from this union, Peter and Gregory were born. She quickly excelled and elevated through the federal service ranks and retired in 1995. Not loving the retired life, she moved her talent to our youth in the Fairfax County Public School System and worked as an Instructional Assistant at Hollin Meadows Elementary, Alexandria, Virginia. Although she was straight forward and “did not play”, her students loved her and returned often to visit. Barbara retired from Fairfax school system in 2006.

Barbara loved her entire family, but really enjoyed spending time with her beloved sisters. They could sit for hours just laughing and reminiscing about the times they spent together.

Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, sons and daughter in laws Peter K. Johnson (Renee), Gregory J. Johnson (Karen) and son Joseph E. Johnson, III, sisters Eva (Campbell) Johnson, and Sheila (Campbell) Thomas; four granddaughters Breauna, Maya, Evana, and Evelyn; four grandsons D’Khari, Gregory Jr, Darius, and Joseph IV; and four great-granddaughters Leila, Leina, Liyanna, Hana; 4 great-grandsons Dash, Jett, Sincere, and Ibrahim. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Joseph Edward Johnson Jr, (CMSGT, USAF, ret.); three brothers Alvin Campbell, Arnold Campbell, and Cyril Campbell; one sister Dorothea (Campbell) Johnson; and great - grandson Jaxx. Barbara was loved and will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends.

Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later determined date.

The funeral will be a private ceremony, remembering Barbara in the presence of close family.
