Dr. Joseph Wellington Jackson, retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, respected physician, and beloved family man, passed away on April 20, 2025. He was a resident of Lowndesboro, Alabama.

Born in Opelika, Alabama, to Jimmie Lee and Louise Jackson, Dr. Jackson graduated from J.W. Darden High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Tuskegee Institute. He went on to receive his medical degree from the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Medicine.

Dr. Jackson proudly served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, first as a pilot and later as a physician. After retiring from military service, he practiced medicine in Montgomery, Alabama, for over two decades, continuing his lifelong commitment to care and service.

He is survived by his daughters, Cecily Jackson and Sametta Jackson Parker; grandchildren, Zeta Conrad and John Joshua Parker; siblings, Jimmie (Rosa) Jackson, Cheryl (Lenard) Lewis, and Larry (Patricia) Jackson; his beloved nieces and nephews, extended family, friends, and colleagues.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 29, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul AME Church, 706 E. Patton Avenue, Montgomery, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Tuskegee University General Scholarship Fund.
