Willie Edward Daniel, Sr.

02/17/1948 - 04/20/2025

Willie Edward Daniel, also known as “Willevan”, was born February 17, 1948 in Stockbridge, Georgia to the late Randolph Daniel, Sr. and Odessa Daniel.

He attended Smith-Barnes Elementary School in Stockbridge, Ga and attended and graduated from Henry County Training School in 1966. After graduation, he joined the United States Army and served from 1966-1969. In May of 1969, he married the late Brenda Lajoyce Daniel (Wingfield) and together they had three children: Willie, Jr. (1969), Monica (1970) and Kendrick (1972).

Later he moved to New York and attended New York City Community College and earned an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in 1978.

For most of his working career, he worked as a surveyor for Consolidated Edison Company of New York (Con Edison) until he retired in 2004.

He returned to Georgia in 2004 to reside in Centerville, Ga where he spent most of his days passionately playing golf. He was committed to the game (some friends would say “obsessed”) and participated and won championships. In his own words, he believed golf “was a game that no matter how good you get, you never truly master it.”…but that didn’t stop him from trying!

He was preceded in death by his parents Randolph and Odessa Daniel and siblings Senoia Daniel, Rufus T. Daniel, Randolph Daniel Jr., Barbara Daniel, Oretha Daniel and Jimmy Daniel.

He leaves a legacy through his children Willie Daniel, Jr., Monica Daniel, Kendrick Daniel (Christina) and grandchildren Maya, Kadja, Olivia, Kandace, Kendra, and Victoria. He also leaves behind his siblings Flossie Daniel Holland, Dorothy Daniel-Smith (D.L., Jr.), Mary Alice Daniel-Davis, Linda Daniel-Echols and James Daniel (Beverly) and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

He will be remembered by us all, especially for his insightful counsel, his quick-witted and sharp sense of humor, his deep appreciation for “our” history and the importance for it to be passed on to the next generation.
