Gennie Brown was born on December 27, 1939 in Eufaula, Alabama. He was one of fourteen children born to the late Robert and Fronnie Brown, share-croppers who instilled in him the values of hard work, honesty, and community. He grew up in a close-knit household where every meal, every prayer, and every lesson was shared.

Gennie, known to most as “Gent”, relocated to Fort Myers, Florida. His first job was in the laundry industry at the Prather in Fort Myers, Florida.

Gennie met the love of his life, Robbie Sue Brown, at the Fair Grounds. After a very brief courtship of seven months, they

were married. On August 31, 2025 they would have celebrated 58 years of marriage, and together they built a strong and

loving home. From their union, came four children, who affectionately called him “Daddy.”

A man of quiet strength, unwavering faith, and deep humility. Gennie’s life was a testament to his enduring power of love, perseverance, and faith in God.

Despite the challenges of the time and place into which he was born, he lived a life full of promise and fulfillment.

Gennie was a proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and mentor, always putting hisfamily first and cherishing every moment spent with them.

A faithful servant of the Lord, Gennie was a lifelong member of Saint Mary’s Baptist Church, where he served in various capacities over the years — from usher to deacon, always eager to lend a hand or an encouraging word. His life was deeply rooted in faith, and he believed strongly in living by example: treating others with kindness, working diligently, and never losing hope.

In his later years, Gennie enjoyed fishing, tending his garden, sharing stories of his youth, and spending time with his growing family. His laughter, wisdom, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents; four brothers, Robert Jr. (Margaret), Andrew (Katherine), Thomas (Carolyn), Jimmy (Bertha).

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Robbie; four children, Clothilda (Mario), Coretta (Cornelius), Thaddeus and Jeffrey (Katrina); ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; surviving siblings, Susie (Rufus), Bennie Mae (Melvin), Annie (Collins), Sammy (Laura), David (Angela), Sherry (Arthur), Juanita, Lugenia, Rosie; Bonus Sister, Nadine (Joshua) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and dear friends.

Though he has departed this earthly life, Gennie’s legacy of faith, family, and perseverance will continue to inspire generations to come.
