Maggie Purnell Stockton King, 88, of Timberwood Drive, Martinsville, VA departed from this life on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at her residence. She was born on December 21, 1936, to the late Eugene Stockton and Vilena Hodge Stockton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Moses King, one son, Lewis Gravely; two grandchildren, Daryl Penn and Sheena Penn; and one brother, David Stockton.
Maggie was a member of First Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Martinsville, VA. She worked for Henry County Public Schools as a bus driver for 37 years until her retirement.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include, three daughters, Vivian Penn of Richmond, VA, Sharon (Gary) Hairston of Bassett, VA, and Joan (Tarlyn) Dillard of Martinsville, VA; three sons, Carlton (Simone) Redd of Martinsville, VA, Dana (Amanda) Gravely of Maryland, and Michael King of Martinsville, VA; three sisters, Dorothy (Ronnie) Bowman of Boca Raton, Fl, Cecil Hodge and Debra (Edward) Martin both of Martinsville, VA; one brother, Alphonso Stockton of Dresher, PA; twenty grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A family visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. until the funeral service following at 12 noon at Spirit of Christ Worship Center, 4250 Chatham Rd, Martinsville, VA. Pastor Carlton Redd will be the eulogist. The burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Drive, Martinsville, VA.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Hairston Funeral Home between the times of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The family will receive friends at the residence 65 Timberwood Drive, Martinsville, VA 24112 at all other times.
